Where to buy this quarter-round extrusion in the uk?

Im looking for some anodised extrusion, like this -

(dimensions not critical, but i dont want to go larger)


Here's another (stock) photo of what im trying to achieve -

Forget about the angle bit, but see the way the sheet fits into the groove - that's what im after.



All the extrusion i can find is has this kind of profile -

Which is *not* what im after - i want the sheets to slot into a groove.


What im trying to do is this kind of thing -

I cut the panels for that (the red bits) but the chassis itself is an expensive off-the-shelf part. All it is is a bit of extrusion (in this case, different bits, as its angled, but i can happily make do with 90 degree).

My only help would be to consider the firms that make caravans, burger vans etc, that looks similar to the edging they use, from the outside anyways.

This firm has one that's close, more of a gentle angle than a curve though.

That's very close to being suitable, and may even do if there was no other option.

Im not fussed at all about the angle - that is just as good as the round, if not better, but the down points of that one are that its a 3mm slot (i didnt mention this before - 1.5mm would be ideal, at 3mm i need to cut much thicker panels, or pack out which is a bit of a bodge) and the other point, which is probably more of an issue is that, to hold on the end panels, i need to drill and tap the ends of the profile - im not sure there's enough meat on that one.

... but i could bodge that by using some strong adhesives or somthing.

Ive just spotted this picture, which is, of course, standard T slot, but its made me think -

If someone sold that, but with a ridge on the point of the opposing angles, so as the plate was recessed in, then that would do also. It looks like the type of thing someone would make, but ive never seen any.

Just tried them - helpful but no solution. Best they could offer was standard angle to cover the joint, and then id drill and bolt through this. I need it to be prettier than that really.

Im wondering if i shouldnt just buy quarter round bar, and see if i cant find someone to machine a slot into each of the flat faces for me?

I could machine them myself, but id hope that someone else may have machines more suited to that kind of job, and be able to run through 2.4m lengths at a time.

That's what I would be doing, decent woodworking spindle moulder with a decent tct cutter will plow through aluminium...

Machining could be expensive for small quantities, any one with a good shop could do that but set up cost is the down side,

To make 10-off those red units in the last photo, id need about 20 mtrs of stock. So a bit, but not industrial quantities.

There's a local engineering place - ive sent them a mail with the details, and ill follow up with a call later. Ive also mailed the american supplier of the profile in the first photo to see if they have any distribution channels over here.

One place can do custom, but the moq is 500kg, and i cant think that would be cheap!

Circular saw bench would do that..

Not sure if you could get away with it but look up flight case extrusion the only problem is its not rounded but will accept 10mm ply plus other thickness

The only likely place you would get the extrusion you are after is the company who owns the tool, not the extruder - that's not to say the extruder might sell you some but that is a bit naughty. And then if it's old it may well have been scraped.

I once wanted some of a certain type and it was made on licence by one company only and never ended up with any until years later when they decided to make it available, so I'm guessing its find out who makes it and contact them, doubt there will be any more from other companies

Ahh - I have found the supplier of the bit in the photo - its an american company, but there seems to be german looking writing all over the place too.

Anyhow, i mailed them earlier today to see if they had any EU distributors.
