Which chinese Diesel Heater to get?

Without reading through a other threads is there a concensus on what is a "good" Chinese Diesel heater to buy right now on ebay or Amazon UK please?

I would be using it in my double garage (300mm masonry cavity wall construction) for background heat and possibly occasionally in my Clarke temporary single garage whilst fully attended.

Also - are these intended to fill with fuel and leave unattended on a timer or low heat setting in a double garage? As a way of keeping chill out of air only no great heat demand. Or is this a bad idea for fire risk etc?

As a side note I do have a large Sealey Diesel space heater for my double garage. Probably too large really and I rarely use it.

I do have a small 2kw fan heater which I have been running for a few hours inside my garage on the coldest days. (DIY evening and weekend use only) and it does put heat in the garage. Enough to notice and do me OK.

they are not 8kw they are only 4-5kw so dont be conned by that figure

you can use them on a timer or how you want them

Yes I have a couple of classic cars in this garage. And I notice that the alloy wheels etc will condense up with the big heater running. I should probably sell it on.

Have I read here before that the China Diesel Heaters burn fairly dry? Aka shouldn't create condensation within the garage during normal operation in cold weather?

I opened up both mine and found the HCalory to have better castings that the Vevor. Otherwise they were much the same.

As I understand it these have an exhaust which is ducted outside through wall.

What else is required to install it? I already have a large 12v cigarette lighter adapter plug. So I'll put a 12v car socket on it and power it from my existing supply.

Should I get a larger exhaust pipe I imagine the one on it is very short?

As long as it's pumping the exhaust gases outside is fine. Obviously don't have the intake with the exhaust. I just use air from inside for my intake.

Start up amps are higher so you need to check if your power supply can provide the necessary amps.

Thanks, yes I'll place the heater in an open area and core the masonry cavity wall for the exhaust to exit. The wall is uninsulated.

I have two of these recently fitted to heat my 30 sq.m garage. I find each one gives off twice as much heat as a 3kW electric heater.

I've had no issues with them, other than the pain of having to drill a 30mm hole for the exhaust and making a stand for them so that they mount on the wall.

Mine draw 7 amps on start up (glow plug?), so not sure why a 30a power supply is needed.

One of mine is a Vevor and the other is HCalory. I've had them both apart (curiosity). The HCalory seems the better one, more solid castings, nicer fuel tubing.

Honestly it's really amazing what Chinese manufacturing can do. Once they suss a technolgy they can create a decent product at an amazing price market changing price. The heaters are a bit minimal in build quality but they are perfectly upto the job.

Tip: I made the mistake of using generic power tool fuel line when I wall mounted my heaters. The exhaust started melting the tube, so serious fire risk. The original fuel tube is heat proof.

How do you power yours?

I initially used a power supply which had a voltage and current guage on it to trial the heater. I now have two heaters and fitted a 30a supply to power them which may be overkill but there wasn't much price difference vs the 20a.

I used a switched power supply designed for LED lighting. Cheap and reliable.

Mine were upright heaters but I took them out of the chassis and wall mounted them using a frame I made.

Yes, the "5kw" heater, if you can call it that as they put out less.

That's the type of power supply that I used. They are very common now, they're even used for Ham radio by some people. The only thing I've found is that the recently produced versions no longer control the fan by temperature. Instead the fan is always on and is noisy. It might be safe to disconnect the fan as the heaters only draw high current for a limited time so there may be low risk of over heating. Maybe someone smarter than me would chime in on this?

I recently fitted a Lavaner Pro 2kw in the missus parents camper, I was very impressed with the quality of the fitting hardware, vastly better than the £70 heaters i fitted in me and her vans.

I fitted it on thier driveway in germany in january which was fun!
I had a panic moment when i was hoping for a flat bit of floor under the passanger seat, but didnt find any, i was about to cobble together a turret plate using an old paint tin and self tappers, until i had a look in the box and descovered the kit had come with a turret plate already!

I have received my Amazon LED 240v - 12V 20 amp power supply today.

I belive this will be suffienct to power one Diesel Heater for occasional domestic garage use.

I'll wire it up tomorrow, fixed at high level out of way of shock hazard and with a plug to make it separate to any fixed wiring installations in my garage.
