Travel West Midlands bus company would have to employ someone permanently to chase payments , when Mrs Robo worked at the Birmingham central garage they averaged 7 damaged/broken mirrors a day!

Pack of ten mirrors wont last a month around here Overgrown roadside vegetation is the worst I have ever seen it. Leaving it for years on end like they have is pennywise pound foolish,what used to be annual rolling TM and ground crew knocking back the regrowth will now have to be road closures and timber extraction.
A mate of mine lost a very expensive bunker bin off his flatbed truck, a leaning tree literally smashed it clean off the back of his truck. Vegetation is supposed to be (and always was)kept a meter back from the roadside edge to a height of 6mts.

If I see from afar a car driving along the dividing line or in the middle of 2 lanes (even on a highway of 130 km/h), 3 out of 4 cars will have Italian license plates. The remaining car probably has an Italian driving it, but the license plates are not Italian. I have no idea why this is so.

Most importantly, they are paying more road tax than you, so that entitles them to use more of the road.

Don't see the problem personally. I am in no hurry to get to the next world.

Todays buses have a "bullbar" on the nearside front corner to protect the upper deck windows from tree damage, back in the day I remember seeing an old double decker with the roof cut off that went round with a gang trimming overhanging branches.

Trucks are generally 8 feet wide, then add on the mirrors.
If it is a fridge vehicle then the body can be even wider, by another 4 inches Iirc.
Truck mirrors are pretty expensive, some companies make their drivers pay for damaged mirrors, I kid you not!
Quite a few drivers unbolt their mirrors rotating them 180 degrees on the mirror arm to make them narrower to save damage down tight lanes.

Our maximum limit is 102" total.
for any vehicle.

And if you do come across a dead straight half mile of road and make a go of it..... you never know if one of the plebs will make a sudden last minute decision and whip out just as you pass them..

Wouldn't be the first time I've flipped on the main beams *three* and kept my finger on the Bavarian Peasant Warmers while passing the lot.

Used to be that trucks etc. would flash their LH indicator when they could see that the road ahead was clear and suggest to a following driver that it was OK to pull out and pass. Maybe none of today's car drivers can understand that, so they no longer bother to do it.

It still gets done here. I only use it to give me an idea that it might be safe as it should be.

I did do this and they just sit there. I don’t bother really now. I will just move over a bit. I guess some liability maybe on me if there’s an accident.

Before the M40 opened, we used to send a car transporter from Longbridge to Southampton down the A34 every spring / early summer with a Marina pick up on top and a bloke stood in the back with a chainsaw…

I do for various reasons. The sensible one is more options for avoiding wildlife that jumps out from either side of the road.

The main one, especially through the highlands, is I can pretend I'm on the Bonneville slat flats. Yes I know some of the vehicles has such bad forward visibility they had to sight the line through their side window, but where's the fun in that.
