will my xti160 run a 6011?

I choose the rods that make my life easier and stick with them, life is hard enough without having to contend with open root using a rod that isn't optimal.

I have no codes to work to or procedures dictating what I can and can't use, I'm sure if I was constrained by procedure it would be a different matter.

Got to consider the different ways we all work. I consider myself an OK welder and have used 6013 for many years (successfully). But more recently I tried 7018 and 6010/11 and find them easier to use, so I use them. Although I enjoy welding, I often need to get the job done rather than play around improving my welding skills and making life hard so i'm 'better'.

Then the day arrives when rod A is not available, look for rod B, damn, not available either. I can only source rod C, oh wait a minute, I took the easy route with rod A, coz I cant be ersed skilling myself up to mastering depositing rods B & C. Nae wonder this country is fecked with this take the easy route attitude, or maybe some are just not capable.

I give my lads the option to either root with a 13 or 10. I demo first, of course. Most, if not all will root and cap with a 13. Cumulating with a final weld test to H&V TR5 standard, 4" dia pipe @ 6G.

When I am weld testing out tradesmen to same standard, again same option, 99.9% will use 6013's all the way. I really do not understand using 6013's for rooting can be horrible???

Took your time to look. This discussion was about use of 13's over 10/11's. I merely pointed out if one is a capable welder, either or, are simple to use, with good training, of course.

You need to remember that a lot of us aren't working in the confines of some stores system that just gives you the rods to do the job. I run my own stores stocked with the rods I like to use, so your argument of 'this rod isn't available' carries no water.

I like comet j50n 7016, I buy every single part open box or badly labelled auction I can get my hands on to ensure I have enough stock in the sizes I need. Same with the nu5...

Hugh, my use of rod selection is not confined to what is available within a store. As I mentioned earlier, our lads have an option to root with either a 13 or 10.

Nor am I arguing, you stated, open root using 6013's is horrible and difficult, I am stating, it is not. With PI's of 100%, my colleague and I, have got it right.

These are sold as 6010 but really seem to be 6011 as they work on AC:

They work, but are nowhere near as nice as the Nu5 ones.

They have a lot more choice of 6011 in USA. Not as much choice as 6010 but lots more than here.they are the 'farmers rod' there like 6013 everywhere else in the world.
