Winch (tirfor) wire rope bag

Even the baby 500kg Tirfor/Jockey hoist with 6mm wire rope will easily pull a 5000kg lathe on rollers. I also dragged a stretched American Limo up a very steep slope with one.
The biggest Tirfor will pull a fully loaded fire engine sideways up a grass bank. Yes helped with that one. Also used to drag a full 20ft shipping container up a steep slope using greased railway sleepers.
They are VERY slow though. My brother says you could use them to nick stuff as they are so slow people won't notice the thing moving!

But what do you anchor them to ? I have got one here, but never thought of anything to use it for. Which reminds me to get it out and sell it !

When the going is a bit tough and you are that end of the bar I find its a bit kinder on the mits than a tube end.

Normally find something to anchor them to or go for a redirect, worst case beat a scaffold tube into the ground at an angle.

Ground anchors are usually good. For one festival in northern Portugal the dancefloor had sand on one side, gravel on another and rocks on another. I ended up using four different methods of ground anchor to brace the power poles supporting the decor, including digging a trench in the sand and burying a tree trunk with a wire wrapped around it.

Having just used a ratchet strap to unload my new mill, I'm tempted to:

a) sink an anchor in the workshop

b) buy a hand winch

Buy a telehandler ( subject to winning the lotto).

Sometimes you have to use what you've got, I'd pulled this old genset onto my trailer, but wanted to get it onto a trolley.

Used prybars to get it onto some offcuts of conduit to roll it to the back of the trailer

Made a ramp out of an offcut of Rhino board with packers underneath and pulled it up with the trailer winch

Ran out of winch cable to get it fully on so rolled the trolley to the back and pulled it square

Thanks! Took ages. But I've a bruised rib, so not fit for much, this was a simple, slow task I could do. Next job is to get it in place, and figure out how to use the darn thing.

It is a copy of the Maasdam rope puller. I bought one and it is well made. To me, it has a lot of advantages over a standard wire-rope come along.
