Are you sure? It has a centrifugal switch, so there must be a start and a run winding....?
I think it is "split-phase", or "induction-start, induction-run". The phase shift to spin it up comes from different coil sizes and coil positioning, with no need for a capacitor. When it is up to speed, the centrifugal switch takes the paralleled start winding out of the circuit, leaving only the run winding.
If you can identify the connections that go from the contacts of the centrifugal switch to the start winding, and reverse the winding, the motor will reverse. The run winding remains connected the same way for either direction.

So with all that said any preference for suppliers outside of eBay or machine mart & 2 pole or 4 pole?

a 1450rpm I would have thought either as u say machine mart ebay or autojumbles for motor
What are the relative sizes of the motor & spindle pulleys in the current set-up? Is is geared up or down?
Do you plan to grind, polish, wire-brush, or all three? Adding a VFD to a s/h 3-phase motor would give ample power and provide variable speed.

On a single phase motor with start and run windings a quick tip if you've got a DMM (Digital multimeter) detach the leads but take careful note of where they are connected; using the DMM on resistance test the leads which should give two pair having a resistance reading on each pair; the higher resistance is the start winding; swap the higher resistance leads only and reconnect; the motor should then run in the opposite direction.

Older motors are slightly more difficult whereas modern motors like Brook Motors have "links" between terminals; the links can be arranged either vertically or horizontally to achieve desired rotation; here's a modern terminal; block;
I worked at Brook Motors here in Huddersfield for 24 years before retirement; I was in distribution/despatch but have wired up many motors in my home workshop. Brooks are very well respected in the electric motor field manufacturing dependable motors.
You'll need to measure the pulley bore diameter and should easily buy a suitable motor but pulleys aren't expensive and can be bought in any size.
SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT: MAINS ELECTRICITY CAN AND WILL KILL IT DOESN'T TAKE PRISONERS.
Capacitors can remain fully electrically charged even with power turned off so beware and discharge before handling.
One of my last projects was to design and make this saw bench which isn't recommended for a novice in any way; it's single phase 4hp; installing the electrics and even using it could be highly dangerous to a novice but an easy enjoyable project for me.
The new 4hp single phase motor rigged up on the bench before installation into the saw bench; please not the connections in the terminal box; the links can be seen giving the desired rotation. I stress this kind of work can kill.
Just passing a bit of time until dinner is ready.

I think I need to do some measuring and see what will fit inside the base of the pedestal. The current motor’s geared down although.
I’m not against running a VFD and 3 phase motor as I’m planning on converting one end to run a belt grinder although I’m not exactly excited to double the budget.
