No on both counts but it's going to depend on your use, you are rebuilding exterior wood that has rotted.

I rebuilt the edge of an ogee door facing that some balloon cut off....and it's fine.

I imagine most will be in the latter camp, definitely superior to filler, definitely inferior to the proper stuff.

Aye. Internal no issue. External it's a nightmare for me.
Tend to overprice myself now to cover the body filler repairs or write clauses into my quotes.

filler was only 10-15 mm deep. rot went much further

See to repair something like that I wouldn't use anything but the right gear. Body filler is porous too so no no for exterior wood.

that's what a pmf multitool is good for cut and square the wood up and glue a block in with gorilla glue then use body filler . its the same as wood filler

A decade ago I'd agree.

These days my splices are left 5mm shy and resined together. allows the splice to flex as if it was still whole.
Don't suffer with the line appearing down the splice 6 months later either

as above cut out and replace with wood after filling sanding doing it xyz times

cut wood in place glue in filler or resin prob be quicker

I used to do a lot of fibreglass boat rebuilds with a mate who had a contract to buy write offs. I seem some awful things done with filler...
A saying we used to use was "P38 dont have to wait" The amount of filler we used was a measure of how smashed up a boat had been.
A Two gallon boat was usual, one 55ft steel motor yacht we tonced up was a Twenty gallon boat, that was 5 gallons of P40 & 15 gallons of P38.
Amazing thing was she was actually built like that from new all unfair & warped & screeded with pudden!

I did a repair on some shop window sills they were damp and rotten in places so i cut out what i could then use a ronseal product that soaked into the damp wood and the hardens, it is a bit like runny super glue after it dried i let in some new timber filled sanded and painted for a one day job i was very impressed
