I also originally went with a gas bottle heater...I literally had water dripping off the roof because of all the moisture in the air.

In the end I went with 2 wall mounted bathroom heaters...they work well but my garage isn't as huge as that workshop. I'm heating 4.5mx7m (2m high). For that volume they work well enough and quite quick too....I generally use both fan heaters for startup but then switch one or both off once warm....like yours my roof isn't insulated but the walls have rock wool in them.

Whats the volume you are trying to heat?...I'm guessing even if you can take the edge off that would probably help. I didn't go with infrared as I wanted the air to be warm. I find with infrared when I'm under the light they are toasty...but anywhere else I'm back to cold...

Last year I did buy a small fan heater from MM which puts out about as much heat as a gnat lighting a fart. I do also have an oil filled radiator for the purposes of leaving on over night in the loo so the pipes don't freeze & burst, again. I have lowered myself to eating my lunch on the loo before infront of that thing. Lid down.

When all is said and done I'm a bit of a pyromaniac and I want fire. I like fire dammit.

I think if you fit a wood stove in the workshop a damper on the the forge is a must ...other wise the forge flue will pull the warm air out of the room .... I think a wood stove with a damper is more controllable on a windy day ... I have chimney dampers on both my wood stoves.If we get very cold and windy weather the big one in the main room of this house will burn slow all night with the air intakes closed and the damper shut , I pack it with olive wood ..in the morning I open the damper and the air intakes and it comes back to life ....
