Probably the best size cylinder choice Mark as I said, you are not paying the ridiculous transaction charge of £10.35 +Vat each time you refill it too often, as it has about 3x the capacity of the smaller 'X' size & rental/refill costs are not much more in comparison.

Justme, Air Products have always had a similar 'transaction' charge, as do all the gas companies. Wonderfull ain't it; imagine having to pay a 'transaction' charge on top of your petrol/deisel each time you filled up at the pump! Come the revoloution!!

Dont see how they can justify it. I can get my bottled propane delivered for no extra charge over the collection rate & NO trasaction fee. Bloody monopoly.

I wonder if it was thought up to stop companies having to many deliveries of small amounts & us little people have been caught in the trap?

The companies who use the shop pay the same price, BOC is not set up as a retailer really so the idea is that you get your gas delivered. The "shop" is really just an emergency top-up for many people and the charge is to deter casual use of it.
And as there are two other companies selling gasses it is not really a monopoly.

Actually, the idea behind the transaction charge is that agents get a cut from that charge as their 'fee' for handling the cylinders. An agent gets very little commission on the actual gas price so it's fair enough from the agents point of view.
BOC could drop the tranasaction charge from their own cylinder centres but then nobody would use the agents!

OK I will tell my boss that then..... He gave me the explanation above and as I work for a BOC (We are all Linde now) subsidiary and he used to manage a gasses "shop"...

And no, I don't get staff discount! I can't even get the Cryoshield driver to refill my CO2 bottles!

Oligopoly is another word for it. Barriers in entry to the market allow existing companies to maintain high prices. And it's good business practice to charge as much as you can until you start losing market share.

And lets face it, now Linde Group and Air-Products are really the only two real suppliers of gasses the market is stiched up pretty well. So I guess we will just continue to pay what they charge.
