Xtool D1 pro 20w - thoughts

Not sure if the X-Tools do it but I know a lot of 40w lasers can be turned down, via a switch, to 20w for engraving.

I've not seen that on the S1 but could be correct. I have watched a few reviews and all of them say the 40w is not as good.
It can cut thicker material and faster than the 20w but just doesn't perform well with fine engraving.

I have a Saturn 4 ultra on pre order so agree with the brand but that is not a fully enclosed laser which is what I have decided I really want.
What can I say, I am fickle!

The price difference is huge though. Mine is sort of enclosed. We have 5 toilets in our house which is rather excessive so I built a stand to go over the bog. Upgraded the extractor fan. Our Saturn printer and laser cutter sit side by side in their own little room. I have a webcam set up so I can monitor it without going blind!

Well I managed to get a £300 voucher off the S1 so the beast has been ordered!
It comes with a load of accessories so should keep me busy for a while

Don't the Xtools have more versatility regarding what materials they can engrave though?

Depends on the type of laser used and the wavelength. All diode lasers will be similar. CO2 will be different.
X tool being a diode laser will be similar to mine.

I totally agree, I have a vevor 15w open frame laser that could do what I want. I just happen to want something a bit more professional and less DIY.
I will add a CO2 to my collection at some point. The K40 looks a nice start to the style of laser. 600 hours at full power and 2000 hours at 40%.
It is all down to preference and budget really.

The process of buying from xTool has been rather tiresome.
They sent part of the order Saturday (I got really excited only to find it was just the riser and honeycomb) then three more accessories turned up today.
The main unit has been despatched so hopefully tomorrow or Wednesday I should be able to get started!
I have been playing with the iCube today but it is fairly underwhelming.
