Not the clearest of pictures but the outer door skin is now clad in featheredge board and looks for all the world like a continuation of the garden fence.

Very happy with the look but I do need to tidy up the edge of the roof.

Daylight picture of the panel door:

It has an extra 4 inch "door" upright (so four hinges in total) so that as it opens, the upright wraps around the angle.

meaning the door can open to be fully flush with the external wall and out of the way.

I'm filling in the door with offcuts of insulation so the area is light tight, sound deadening and err, insulated.

Made a right mess but all that plastic dust should blow away and dissolve harmlessly in the ocean

Well that was fun.

Doors done and used up a few offcuts into the bargain. Screwed a thin ply panel over the top.

Tidied up the edges with a flush bit router.

They are quite light doors but awkward now there's nothing to grab hold of.

Need to think about door locks and latches now.

I'd be thinking about sweeping that floor first. It'd bug me seeing that mess. You want top & bottom shoot bolts on one of the doors, otherwise they'll rattle like buggery when they're latched together if there's wind or such.

I was just kidding. I deliberately kept all the mess inside so that I can dispose of the waste properly.

Yeah, I think it will probably end up being throw bolts but I am considering something a little more special. Even those door bolts can allow the door to rattle.

Last time I made up a one off door latch, it was a lever type that caught a wedge, locking the door and also pulling it tight. But security is not a problem, just need to stop the foxes getting in. No ones going to nick my anvil!

In which case I might even make up some nice chunky wooden latches. Something interesting....

If I was being honest (with myself) the first thing in there is probably going to be a half finished RS250, closely followed by a Bridgeport needing paint (and some assembly).

I have simply run out of space, everything is jammed and I can't work anywhere. For example one garage has the half finished RS nestled among the remaining parts of the Bridgeport with a half crashed RS in the back. The shed is cluttered up with a completely crashed RS. There's already a spare RS250 in the bedroom

So the "forge" is going to have to wait until I can churn out a few ultra long term projects. I lost my biking mojo and basically left them where they fell!

I bought some stuff to decorate the area, including this lovely looking thing:

Next to it you can see the subject of todays restoration. Old cross pein hammer head. I bought some additional stuff from the seller (a box of really neat paperweights) and he threw in a few goodies for me to play with.

Wire brushed the head (getting the broken shaft out was the main job), cleaned up and cut a store bought shaft, then made up a wedge. Wedge is mahogany which I have had a lot of luck with when mounting hammer heads, I thin it out a bit more than is shown, then make sure the surfaces are dead smooth.

I even "made" a steel wedge though really I need to put a bit more thought into it next time. I bet there's a well known tried and tested design. I had to cut some grooves into this with a hacksaw for grip.

Not super tidy but it's not coming out again any time soon.

2lb cross pein, looks new! You can't see the face but I cleaned that up with 280 grit paper on an orbital sander. Nice and flat, slight radius, lovely and shiny.

Can't wait to start hitting things with it.

If you rehandle another hammer leave 5-10mm sticking out then bray it with a ball pein to spread it out, it'll fill the gap between the handle and the head.

Thanks I'll try that. I did have enough sticking out but just chopped it off! It's not the right sort of handle for this hammer, it's an engineers hammer handle but I found it kicking about so just used it anyway.
