Would 25mm square box with 3mm walls be any good for the legs and framework?

works perfectly well for me good solid bench, holds motorbikes engines, you can weld things to it when you need to, holds a bloody big vice, will take a pounding no problem.

Mine's bolted to the walls and floor - got some 50mm square plates cut when I got the top cut (2mm mild sheet) welded them to the legs and bolted through.

Much more bench than that seems overkill to me. Lathe bench is made the same, takes a 9" SouthBend OK.

Just been given a quote for some stuff to make my bench from a local fabrication company
2 x 7.5m x 40mm mild steel box
2 x 7.5m x 25mm " " box for a different project
2000mm x 1000mm x 2mm mild steel sheet.

£182 more painful than I thought it was going to be.

thats about £82 over what it should be I reckon!! It should be well under 100 quid....try somewhere else.

Swisstony,theres a good fabricators in hailsham if not to far for you on the main inds est,he sells me stuff at cost price,very helpfull to,cant remember the name but i know where he is.pm me
