About 30 mins will put 2 micron on a typical part.So how long does the part stay in the Solution?

You have the the fish pump turned up way to high! Use the smallest you can find and the use a restricted. You just want a small trail of bubbles. The movement of them rising causes enough movement to assist the natural brownish motion.
I use this 5amp unit from Maplin for my stuff. It's very controllable and safe! As you have seen I get excellent results from it.
Use the hot air gun......
A bench power supply is definitely the way to go for limiting output. The other option Wallace, (assuming you're running less than a couple of Amp's or so overall), would be to pick yourself something like a L200 regulator up and make a quick and dirty variable current controller.
Nice results I was experimenting with plating a while back with an irregular shaped part, even with agitation I was still getting hot spots so I rigged up a turntable to rotate the part during plating (approx 1 RPM) using a mirror ball motor. Unfortunately I've not had time to experiment again since though.

Looking at your post on the other forum, if I could get the black passivate to come out that dark I would be happy! I see the Zinc and Ammonium ratio per litre you are using is different again to the kit I have and other information since found, possibly due to the brighteners used by each manufacturer.
