I'm still learning after 7 years of stick welding
Sometimes expecially while I'm uncomfortable happens to cannot lay down a straight bead but if you have something to weld together is easier to go straight .

The black glassy slag are a hybrid rutile low hy.....there are a lot of variants between 100% rutile and 100% basic low hydrogen.....the black glassy slag types wont be as low in Hydrogen as the conventional low hys but they will run on lower OCVs etc.

Sometimes just changing the volume of coating on the wire can change the slag and other properties.

just out of curiosity what was the coating on the Filarc 76s electrode , they made them in 3.5 and 3.25 dia the 3.5 was a brilliant rod but the 3.2 was a real dog some one mentioned the 3.5 had a dual coating of sorts

6012 multi pass beads. Much better than earlier.

But best technique for 6012 is straight bead, whip and pause or stack dimes? How great is the difference between 6010/6011?
