Advice Please - Which Head Torch?

Can someone please point me in the right direction for a sensible head torch.
I use them in the workshop - yes I do have lights in there... but for some jobs that concentrated beam of light suits me fine.
I have had a couple in the past and each have had some features that REALLY p*ss me off - ie: 2 buttons on the top for which you can, depending on which one you press, select, a red light, a flashing red light, a flashing white light, a bright white light. a dim white light and finally off ...... You've guessed it - everyone I press the first time is the wrong one - you got the tee shirt...????
I just want a bright white light - ideally not bulky so units with separate power source for me would be out.
Suggestions based on experience welcome.

Mine only has one button but you do have to go through the whole menu to switch it off. It was cheap though from Wish.com and it is bright. The batteries cost more than the torch

I got a cheapie "energizer" one from home bargains/b+m
Was like £3 and uses 2x AAA batteries.
1button, bright, dull and off.

Those features annoy me too, I have a couple of head torches like it and the Sealey torches we use at work are the same having to cycle through to off. I did modify one cheapie with a push button that interrupted the power to switch off instead of cycling through all the stupid features.
I have one head torch with nearly an on/off switch! Pressing on starts super bright then dims with each press to select brightness then off but once you select a brightness for a few seconds off is just one press. It also has a PIR sensor where you wave your hand across the front to switch it on and off, a useful feature if you need to talk to someone face to face, that feature requires another press and hold to switch on.
I would prefer a straightforward on/off switch though.

- 3 x AA, last far longer than AAA, can use rechargeables
- single-point T6 LED for a bright light source, better than COB
- battery box is at the back, does not drag the light down
- zoom from flood to spot

Alternatively, if you prefer Li-Ion, get anything with a T6 LED and one or two 18650 cells in a box at the back of the headband.

Thrunite TH20 - you have to import them now. Simple control ramps brightness up and down, very robust quality headlamp. I have a couple.

Any of the Olight offerings will be good. I have now started to buy their torches, amazing bits of kit. They regularly have sales where you can get a real bargain

Close-up work LedLenser H3.2 is my choice. For open ground / woodland the H5R Core is good. I'm not a fan of the H7R, a bit too 'fussy' and too many options.
Personally I would prefer the H5R to have replacable batteries, easy to carry and immediate power, the H5 in other words, but with higher output.

Another Led Lenser user here. My old one eventually gave in after years of almost daily use, still on the same set of NIMH batteries. The cable between the battery holder & the light had a broken wire inside. On the off chance I sent the company an e-mail, they got me to return the broken one & in a few days got a brand new head torch with another 7 years warranty. can't beat that for customer service!

A few years ago I bought a batch of the head torches that take x4 AAs.

Considered heavy now I know. At the time I got them for peanuts on eBay as according to the rather apologetic seller "the instructions are in French". Gave away to family and friends and kept a couple. Eventually, I guess due to the weight the elastic headband goes saggy. I've usually broken them in some way before then!

I'm very heavy handed on head torches and have a bag of ones to be repaired sometime.

On this ELWIS PRO at the mo. Not cheap but bought on the hurry up one time from SF/TS. Second one I think I've had, front clip is broken. Lead on the other one failed.

I've bought a couple of these for general use in the workshop. I like the sensor so you can wave your hand to turn it on and off, saves covering your head with muck or having to remove gloves etc.

I bought two as I tend to lose at least one immediately, but if I can find both, it will cover a full day in the workshop without recharging. They're less than 20 quid each, not as bright as a Lenser but good enough for my ageing eyes.
