and another update.....up until seeing this thread I had cheap generic airbrush that I was give as a freebie (top one in the picture), I then bought a generic one with large paint reservoir and 0.3mm nozzle. After getting that and trying it with primer that wasn't over thinned I found that the spray pattern was a bit narrow at low pressure, but I dont like using more that 20psi as you get more spray mist and overspray. I then thought I would be better with a 0.5mm nozzle for use with thicker paint. With the cheap air air brushes the nozzles and needles are interchangeable, so I got a new cheap airbrush with 0.5mm and swapped the nozzle and needle over. So now I've got one suitable for doing small jobs and one for doing larger jobs and thicker paint. I got the new air brush as my original one has the paint cup on the side so is harder to clean and doesnt have stop for the needle to adjust the spray pattern.
I could have got a branded one at wholesale prices, but for the work Im doing, I dont think it would make my painting any better, so I've gone with the cheap ones.

I got some paint and consumables for my model making yesterday from my brother in law......
......anyone think he is trying to drop a hint when you look at the bag they came in

Used mine for the first time today, few gelcoat touch ups. Spray pattern is good and the extra capacity really helps.
Will see what the repairs are like on Friday, once it’s flatted and polished.

Over the last few weeks I have been selling off a few unused and surplus to requirements items.
I have used some of that money to buy a small almost silent air compressor and a mini-sandblaster from RDG Tools as a sort of happy belated birthday present to me.
During last year's lock down I rekindled my interest in airbrush painting and undertook quite a few practice sessions and technique exercises.
However, to use the airbrush I needed to utilise my 50 litre air compressor (85dB) which these days I use for plasma cutting and which I did use for paint spraying steel fabrications I had made (the latter got me into trouble with Norwich city council's environmental health dept, but I was spraying agricultural enamel paint mixed with standard thinners). Every time I start up my compressor the next door neighbour goes off on one and rings the Police and NCCEHD, even if I am only plasma cutting. I got away with airbrushing acrylic paints as a hobby during the lockdown but he still rang the plod every time I started up the large compressor.
Anyway this is a small almost silent (75dB) compressor designed for hobby airbrushing and the twastard next door can now go off and do one!
The mini compressor and airbrush kit and this is the Mini Sand Blaster.
I have video of the unboxing and my first impressions but that can wait for a day or two until I actually use it for airbrushing.

However, Saturday afternoon was wet and miserable and we sustained a puncture on the car which necessitated a trip to a local tyre specialist, which because of the queue slowed us down and we couldn't go to visit 'er-in-doors' mother
(covid bubble of three thingy). Anyway on the way home I nipped into the local pharmacy to buy some surgical alcohol, de-ionised water and glycerine to make up some thinners for my acrylic paints. Up on returning home Lois decided to do some art work and insisted on using some of my inks, alcohol and water on a pre-stretched canvas. She began by blowing the inks, water and alcohol with a straw.
Blowing through the straw worked, but was not as easy as she thought it would be, so she wanted to use the compressor to see if it would blow them about some more, so I suggested using an unloaded airbrush as a blow nozzle and here is in action: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mO8kowrTHXI and www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hqua20eh4Y
Later in the evening she sat down with a draughtsman's pen and doodled on that now dry canvas. I saw it and commented that it looked like a flower augmented Aye Aye ...... a sort of evil looking nocturnal Lemur from Madagascar.
