No worries I have a 100 series pcl on my 25 ltr portable for that very occasion. for undoing crank pulley, bolts drive shafts etc coz they can be fun on your own.

Yes don't I no it. Most of my repairs and maintenance is on cars or 7.5 tonne lorries. But have a volvo fl6 tractor unit that I have a heap of work to do on. Front discs and pads. Pto leak ect.

Also it doesnt matter the size of the tank for the immediate burst.

as with bead blowers they work on immediate flow

to blow tyres onto the bead with the 'shock wave' or shock mechanics

may i ask? with compressor tools what compressor tubing is best to use for any compressor tool to be used when connecting to your air tools

Most DIY compressors aren't capable of supplying that pressure and volume though so it's not going to be the airlines or fittings holding you back.

even a small compressor will do the job with large capacity tank at full outlet pressure . just not sustained use

also even though you have a 1/2"dia air line the 1/4 bsp pcl fittings are roughly less than a 1/4 of the dia, so the airline is immediately restricted to 1/4" before any air gets into the pipeline!! then you have in total two pcls to get through.
so whilst it will run the gun to free air the power/ torque required is not there.

Not quite. Having a (say 1/4) restriction in the pipe doesn't mean that it's all effectively restricted down to that same level. A half inch pipe with a 1/4 restriction will still flow a lot more air than a 1/4 pipe with a 1/4 restriction.
Somewhere - but I can't find it now - I found a chart explaining the restriction of bends, couplers etc. It would tell you that a 90 degree angle was equivalent to x feet of hose, and that y size bore restriction was equivalent to x feet of hose, very useful.

To be honest I have never really been a fan of cordless I use them and had the first makita ones that came out 30 years ago but that milwakee is impressive it cracked a drive shaft bolt with me just holding the drive shaft, with the air gun I had to put the disc bolts back in, to help hold the cv to get a more solid hammer, but it would not undo it.
the cordless just laughed at it and it had done 4 wheels off and on and then 4more off prior to the 'test'

The Milwaukee impact wrenches are in a league of their own and I'm told better than SO. I don't have the most powerful model but one that's just a little behind it and boy does it work well for a little cordless machine. The top spec one is supposedly similar in power to SO's 725 (I think) air impact wrench that we both have (yours which had to go in for repair) and I do wonder if they're ready to make air powered ones obsolete for everybody who isn't using it all day next to an airline.

Are you wanting to know what size pipe you need?
If so what are the air tools you want to run? 10mm is generally the minimum you want for most things, if it's a long hose or for tools which are heavy on air then bigger still, e.g to 1/2".

Right I did not say a 1/4" bsp reduces it to to 1/4", I said it was a quarter of the pipe dia. a male pcl probe is 4.8mm id which is in fact 3/16" -----1/4" is 6.5 dia what I said was it restricts a 1/2" dia pipe down to approx same as a 1/4" bore hose before the air gets into the hose the big problem is, the feed is restricted, into the hose, and it cant pass more than what it can get into it.
Whilst a 1/2 air line does act as a small reservoir, in total there are two QR each restricting the flow and mainly the biggest restrictor is the male probe at the gun end, because there is no reservoir in the short tail to the gun valve, as soon as you pull the trigger the air pressure/flow has dropped to the flow of 4.8mm dia or 3/16"

Have had a little spend up. Got this inch drive air gun.some 100 series fittings and hose. These fittings are a lot better in quality that than the standard ones.happy days .

By far the best nut gun for the truck wheel nuts has to be the inch drive petrol ones. Mine is absolutely relentless and its never failed yet,it beats all my windy guns by a long chalk and you can cart it about without needing air.

Railway lads use them a lot for dogging up the track bolts at points. Great bits of kit for breakdowns and stubborn wheel nuts

The thing is..we go out and purchase tools and machinery to do different jobs.post a couple of pictures of new unpacked tools and happy in the fact that we did good.then someone posts a picture of a bigger and better one.making us spend more money lol

I think the big air nut guns are ok if they are backed up with a hydrovane or screw compressor , the battery guns are ok for the odd big nut but can't see them being any use removing hundreds of truck nuts come the six weekly checks. Not mentioned here is the bigger corded nut guns like the 3/4 drive makita , seriously good bit of kit.

Just starting to move over to milwaukee now as all the cordless stuff needs replacing, its very good.
In fact to good Dads just got the smallest 12v driver and it is to powerful on the lowest clutch setting will sink a 5mm screw straight in before the clutch cuts in the old 12v makits wouldn't touch on on full setting. No use for 3mm wood screws. Had to get a 10.3 dewalt to replace it.

The 18v drill is just as powerful as a corded geared slow speed makita.

It's not the most powerful available but I have a Milwaukee 1/2 impact wrench. It's quite powerful and there isn't that much it can't undo unless you're talking wagon wheelnuts or seriously over tightened things. Though supposedly the more powerful model is almost unstoppable.

Battery life is brilliant. I have one 3ah and two 4ah. The 3 hardly gets used as it's lacking in power but the 4's make it a great tool. But there are 5ah batteries claiming a 20% power increase which I believe having seen the difference between 3 and 4.
There's now up to 9ah available although you'd be making an impact wrench very heavy and it's more suited to magdrills etc. But I think it fair to say that the tools perform very well throughout the battery depletion which is slow.
They're nothing like the things available three years ago, at that point I probably would have agreed with you.

Bill I will concede the battery gear has moved on in recent years , the milwaukee 3/4 drive unit does spec well but at £500 its expensive.Also its 1600nm of torque is over 1000nm short of my S/H £250 petrol nut gun ( had for over ten years and still going well)which tells me for sure its not up to the job let alone the ball ache of keep swapping batteries. I have got a hitachi 24 volt drill which is good but I still find myself giving up with it and running the lead out to use a proper drill, for the odd small job they are ok but for serious drilling or nut running it has to be leccy, air or petrol engine.

I have used the milwakee 'fuel' 1/2 gun and am well impressed with it, the only thing imo is it is too powerful at times and needs toning down with three settings not only two coz the slow is very slow, but full power ---wow! I undid a drive shaft bolt that nothing else would budge I didnt even have to put the wheel bolts back in the disc to help, I just held the drive shaft with my left hand bingo bolt was not only undone, it was out!!! with one little blip of the trigger.
BUT I can see some serious damage will be done by them in the wrong hands in fact a guy at the garage who is a bit 'heavy', if ya catch my drift put some wheel bolts in and it needed 3/4 ratchet to get them off, with bolts being 'necked' in the process I heard him tighten them and it was just a quick buzz it might have rattled once but one rattle to many IMO.
