Paasche are good, as are Iwata - I've got one of them. Just don't buy an Aztek... Iwata spares are a bit pricey but everythings easily available.

Double action definitely. Also look at cups and such, mine is side-fill and can take mini-cups or larger plastic bottles. Better for me than a fixed cup of a certain size, but depends what you need.

Tip size won't matter greatly at first but check out what sizes are available (and that they are available).

Any comp will feed it, use a decent regulator/water trap.

The mag sites have how-to's like Airbrush Action and others and there's active forums. For depressingly excellent work have a look at kustomkulturelounge.com

450-600 Euros, depends what's being done really. It takes a few hours... and you need to 2k clear over it all afterwards, flat polish etc.

One of my friends is a professional race driver and he has his helmet sprayed 2 or 3 times a year and it costs him plenty !
The other thing is motorcycle tank art, lots of cash in that if your good !

just do your home work on what helmets can be sprayed.

If the wrong type of paint is used it can seriously affect the way the helmet reacts in an impact, when you think of what it is protecting make sure you use the correct paint!

I will sir, but what i wanted to say is: all things in time...i'm very far away still from spraying anything...So don't worry i'm not going to get me an aerographe and start right off painting peoples helmets without even knowing what i'm doing!

It was always said you can't paint polycarbonate lids.
I didn't have the faintest idea why, when I started painting I cleaned the bowl of a filter with thinners, instantly the whole thing was completely crazed! it's actually still in use 35 years on, does look scary when you look it.

I left a little triangle of paint on a race car windscreen[gap in the masking], the owner was helping me put it all back together and he went and got some thinners and a rag, he said it crazed as soon as the thinners touched it.

I originally bought one from RDG, the small compressor with the tank underneath. It came with two 0.35mm brushes, one suction, and one side fill. They are great to start with and indeed are still in use for specific applications. However the comp does now tend to get rather hot, but runs fine with a fan in front of it.....!!

I still use it occasionally, but have several 2hp 25l compressors, which will be essential when you come to clear coat, if indeed you do intend to do that part. (That is an art in itself, and spraying 2k lacquer uses some dangerous chemicals, requiring breathing gear, and PPE).

I use an Iwata Eclipse HP-BCS 0.5mm airbrush as my main, and trust me, you don't need anything finer than that. It will do as fine as my 0.35mm brush, but will also allow some of the more exotic paints like aluminium or pearlescent to be sprayed, (which need at least 0.5mm to get thru the gun).

For priming and clearing and large basecoating, I use dirt cheap HVLC guns, and these are fine for the job.

I buy all my stuff from SM Designs in Northern ireland off Simon Murray, who incidentally taught me to airbrush.

I got my mind set on a H&S airbrush, the harder & steinbeck Evolution....
But i have to try some things out before i'll buy it...(quite expensive)
I'm waiting for a book about airbrushing i've ordered on the net....can't wait!!!!

Airbrushes

Hi - I used to use airbrushes for sigwriting. The common starter kit would be a Paasche or Iwata kit. Definitely get a dual trigger, which means you push down for the amount of air, and pull back on the same lever for the amount of paint you want to flow through. Airbrush with paint even thinner than you would spray with. Practice by trying to spray staright lines at different set thicknesses.

I tell you now, like hand brush work, it's very hard, and at first you might think it's impossible but practicing the boring bits and will eventually get neater.

They don't consume much air, so you can use a small compressor with the usual air prep you'd use for spraying.

Nothing's impossible, if you want it you can do it!
I already have some experience in drawing and painting i guess my main problem would be to get comfortable when holding the airbrush...you have to be able to forget about the thing and just...do your magic!
