If its that bad start with a feeler gauge..

Yup, that’s exactly where it needs to start. She is a bit warped, like all the fun ones!

No surprise as table is twice the travel so all the clamping would have been done there and quite a large overhand from support.

Something inside is fed up and saying just slap it on the machine but I will end up
Pulling it again so need to suck it up!

The surface grinder is around 30mm short on travels either way you cook it as well so will be files and scraping.

She has been knocked about a bit. I may pop it round mates and see if we can fly cut it then go from there (nobody with grinder I know around here)

Had the table skimmed to get rid of mess on table. Was milled as I am going to scrape anyway.



Gave the table a stone ready to mount and still has lovely scrape marks



Gave the table a quick cross hatch pass to take measurements



Here is setup so I can dial in base before mounting table and removing the 0.6mm bow on ends from clamping while
Machining.



Once the large bow is removed I will then scrape it flat then scape back parallel.

Quick update as everything is now mostly rebuilt and now I have used it really isn’t big enough for some of the jobs I have coming in. As I’m planning to setup manual machine shop as side hustle I need to more travel for the work. Would love to keep as it’s so flexible but needs must

This is now for sale or swap for Bridgeport size machine (short table version better for now) Bridgeport is pushing it but there aren’t many in between size machines. I could go for fp2 size of theil etc but they are big cash.

Here is rotary now done

This has machine has the following:

Vertical head
Slotting head
Rotary table
Multi angle tsble
Horizontal overarm support
Rotary tailstock support
New brook crompton motor
Single to 3 phase inverter

I need to finish scraping table top back in and will finish for buyer if good offer.

I don’t know what these go for but around £3k feels good considering the slotting heads fetch big money alone (Deckel made) along with work put into it.

Also happy to do a swap etc.

Should all be heading in my direction, once I work out where I'm going to store it while I build the workshop....

Once you hear the vertical head running you may change your mind and stick with high speed head and put speed control on there. It sounds like an air raid siren over 600rpm due to straight cut gears! I was looking for high speed head for that reason. I now have an Elliot Omnimill which has self powered vertical head and much quieter.

Will have to see about speed control on the high speed head - it's currently a single phase motor (as is the main motor, in fact). It's a balance as well with collets, tooling etc. Time will tell!
