This ^ Absolutely works fine for most requirements, unless you need full power. My 5kW Fritz Werner runs this way, as does my Richmond. If I recall I did strip and rewire the Town Woodhouse, probably because the motor needed a bearing anyway. Long and the short of it, unless you need to be working the thing hard you can get by in Star on 240V, and especially if you run at lower Hz on the drive.The power feed on my mill was 415V 3 phase. It runs perfectly adequately, with a 220V output VFD, without modification.
I fitted a star-configured 3 phase motor (driven with a 230V VFD) for the spindle drive. Runs OK.
I did break the star point on my SG motor in order to run on a 230V VFD. That will, if necessary, run smaller diameter wheels at their rated speed or the designed wheel size at a lower speed (to alter the grinding characteristics). Doubt I will, but the options remain.
