As an example of the confusion these lights cause I had the following lights flashing on my Mitsubishi Outlander.
ABS, SRS, 4X4, plus the EML.
So no working ABS, Traction control, or 4 wheel drive!
The code reader picked up a code that said it was a problem with the fuel pressure regulator, I obviously ignored that and thought it was one of the ABS sensors as what has fuel pressure got to do with the ABS etc?
After a few hours testing the ABS sensors I found no faults so reluctantly ordered a fuel pressure regulator for £60 fitted it and cleared the codes and hey presto it worked perfectly!
I did a bit of research on how this system works and basically the engine management system needs to know the fuel pressure so it can operate the various other systems ie cutting the power when the traction control kicks in, if it doesn't know how much fuel is going through it how can it modulate the power? it's all interlinked!
It ran better and had better MPG too so I think this regulator was on the way out for a while.
