ARC eye ???

perhaps some have thinner eyelids? I must say sometimes at places like college etc people repeat stuff they have heard without question. whenever I did it it just sunburned my eyelids so I never made it habbit- besides I was ok with a split screen, it is a pain tacking with a had held or nodder

My step father claimed to have had a flash from a days tacking with his eyes closed. That's not to say he didn't open them at any point to cause it I just believed what he said and never do it incase it's true. I have to say though I have learned a lot about its capability from this thread alone and I know less about it than I thought

Ive tacked things up loads of times with my eyes shut and never had a problem only ever had a flash once through a cracked glass, managed to crack it and decided I needed to get the car finished, twas years ago, never again

Thanks for ALL the replies gentlemen and ladies (if there are any here ?). It turned out to be a tiny burn on my iris. Most likely from using the grinder.

Mental note to self - ALWAYS wear goggles from now on !!

Yes wear them I've been in the A&E department having steel removed from my eyes with a needle type tool twice, never again and because of it just had to have eyes xray,d before I could have an mri scan

Yes, I know snooper. Totally idiotic of me really and I'm not a young gun either !!! Just stupid things you do when your trying to get jobs finished eh !!!

The craziest thing is that my thought process was " I'll be OK, I have my contacts in, they'll protect me eyes" !!! DOH !!!

Yes. It's not just grinder wheel fragments either, grinder wire brush bristles coming off can do horrible things. There was a picture on here a time back of a wire from a brush stuck in an eyeball.

I find the worst thing is when you notice a bit you've missed and surely you don't need to fish out the goggles to do that last little bit...........

Avoid metal in eyes, lest you want to turn up 1 to 2 hours early for every mri you might ever need (to check your eyes thoroughly for metal swarf)
sand can be as bad for pain (I got a bit of grit in my eye while crawling under floors, went to clinic a few days later as my eye was intermittently felt like it was getting needled...
couldn't see anything at first...then nurse spotted it...one tiny black fleck partly embedded into my eyeball under my upperlid...relief was immense...one of the most annoying pains ever...male nurse and he fessed up to being a regular attender himself due to stuff getting in his eyes when gardening etc...

Just had eye xrays before an mri for that exact reason
