It's common to find those type of nipples on older machines. They need an oil gun.

I'm not surprised the knee is stiff. It's the same on my Harrison Mill. The skew gears that turn the leadscrew get covered in crap - chips, congealed oil and coolant. I bet its full of all manner of nasties.

They're like grease nipples that you’d find on tractors/excavators.

The colloquial name would be "zerk" fittings.

I got a push type oil gun from some industrial printing supplies firm. I'll be damned if I can find the website now though.

Don't know if I'd recommend it anyway, I had to re-engineer the piston to stop it spewing oil everywhere.

That seems to be a common complaint with many of them.

I’d fit a central lube system
Fit metering units in place of the nipples and a bijur type pump
Don’t bother paying extra for a bijur as they’re chinesium now

Taking all the tables off and the knee is no mean feat on this machine. All I can do at the minute is try and clean what I can get to and oil the hell out of it

normal nipples, not the slide on type? you could put oil in a grease gun, I must have missed the picture, never had a tractor! got a dumper though, and will be using it tomorrow to move ready mix down the garden for my forge shed base,

We had a whopper of a grease gun in the job years ago, it was like a small barrel on wheels, a trolley. That was hooked up to an air-line and it would pump grease into anything. If you had oil in it, it would great for forcing oil into dry slides i always thought.

and oiling the whole workshop in one hit! don't ask how I know!

I’ve got a bit of an issue. I’ve managed finally to get the nut that compresses the dials off the leadscrew. Cleaned everything and dressed the start of two damaged threads with a file. the nut screws on two or three threads them gets stuck.

thread is an odd size. 1.650” haven’t measured TPI. It’s fine though at least 18 or 20tpi.

Has anyone had success with thread files?

Thread files are very useful. I was using my metric one a few days ago to clean up some 6mm stainless coach bolts.

I have a lot of old hand thread chasers, no help unless you can get the leadscrew into a lathe though,

@Brad93 I have a thread file you can borrow if required. I take it your talking having used little swiss files? Like matchless I have a fair few thread chasers..

Yes, wouldn't be with out them. Sykes pickavant are the ones i have and find them great. Got me out of scrapes a few times.

I put some elbow grease into the table today with a citric acid “gloop” sitting for about 30 minutes and then a ton of work with a bronze wire brush. Washed liberally with warm water, then dried, WD40 and a bunch of rags. Airline to completely dry the t slots out.
Lightly stoned with a bench stone.

Vice has gone a bit rusty from condensation.

Now going to tram the vice in. Might even make some chips today.

My jaws on the vice have a bit of bow in them. Made it a little difficult to tram the vice exactly. Its within about 0.2mm which is close enough to muck about with.

Need some parallels.
Dials on the handwheeks are better but still liable to slip a bit. Might keep an eye out for a DRO.

Need to sort the oil situation out. Still can’t see how the x or y is lubricated.

Anyone know what much about this clarkson holder? Looks like 5/16” or ¼” tools would fit with a side lock. It says “Clarkson FC3 40INT”

We have made chips
