It is permissible though, is it not? Omitting the possible effect of wildlife on cables, the ducting fulfils the requirement of a cable being protected from wear, abrasion, accidental damage etc?
Would have to look really carefully at impact requirements for cable system external especially if it was to be buried plus the requirements for draw in points every 3m to prevent cable damage during install then keeping water out is very hard singles would be more costly than swa as they come in 100m rolls t+e is very hard to pull in over any distance and conduit size would be large
The idea of putting "normal stuff" down a outside duct is not a good one
25mm cored armoured cable 45 m long (124 amps ), what are you running in there man, that's gotta be one hell of an equipped workshop.
toys!!!
electrickary wise at the moment
pillar drill
compressor
tyre changer
low bay lighting
bench grinder
welders
plasma cutter
hand power tools grinders sanders saws drills etc
in the near future
4 post ramp (just need to make space and move it from the garage next door)
outside lights (one fine day when its raining)
on the wish list
cold cut saw
lathe
better tig
better plasma
better compressor
and so much more!!!!!!
.
Toys I understand, but generally you'll only have 3 or 4 things being supplied at once including the lights and unless your planning having a old big miller transformer tig. I personally can't see the need for a 120+ amp supply, 60/70 amps maybe. I used to use a 10mm armoured to run my garage, welder, compressor, lights and a drill or angle grinder all at once (sorry forgot to add the radio)..
oops i forgot about the radio
and up stairs the hobby room (well thats what it said on the planning aplication)
it just so happens that our hobbies are playing pool, snooker, darts, poker, bandit/fruit machines and drinking alcohol
so there is also the
half dozen advertising neon signs
the flash cooler
the pump lights (ok they are only 12V)
the 2 bandits
pool and snooker table lights
the fridge
the amp / sound system
i guess then its also future proof!!! it may only be single phase but its a 100A supply

If there is building control on this job then how are you having electrics signed off?
Only trouble with clipping TWE to a fence would be the neighbour knocking a nail in from the other side --------- UPS!!
No need to worry about that one, no neighbours that side.
and the only other trouble is your not supposed to clip cables along a wooden fence as when the posts snap with rot and a good gale the fence takes off with the cable still attatchedOnly trouble with clipping TWE to a fence would be the neighbour knocking a nail in from the other side --------- UPS!!

Thats what I thought when I fitted mine twenty years ago 'they will be there for ever' guess what ? YEP they have rotted !! what annoys me is they where 10fts as well. mind you though I wouldnt like to knock a nail through emand as for the posts rotting, they are big fat concrete ones.
Right folks got my cable now,but can anyone tell me what else I need exactly to wire it as I want a 20 amp plug for the compressor,a 16 amp for the welder or will the welder be ok on the 20 amp,and also couple of sockets and a light. Also what would I need to wire the armoured cable to fuse board in the house.
