Attaching brass to steel.

Ok back to this old chestnut. I altered my design so I used aluminium instead of steel so now I need to lock a brass thread 3/8BSF into Aluminium that is 3/16 thick and 1 inch wide.

I tried using that silver solder not realising I had not asked in here if it would work on ali and brass together. sadly it did not take. So any suggestions appreciated. If I was to try using mig which i now have an ali set up for would that grab the grass as well??? It basically needs to stop the brass threaded bar from turning in the ali

The Mig weld will not stick to the brass. If the alloy is threaded to accept the 3/8" BSF thread I would use something like Loctite 601 retainer.

With the pin in a void withing the aluminium, it may be possible to encapsulate it.

pinning is not quick enough I might need to do lots

Wrong was round mate. I need a 3/8 BSF thread sticking out of the side of a 3/16 x 1 inch aluminium flat bar.

So you want bsf studding sticking out of your aluminium, do you want the studding going through the 1" face or coming off the 3/16 edge?

Tap it and use studlock? An alloy through hole will be very quick to tap.

I do tap it but it unscrews so I am looking for the most secure long term solution that is quick and easy to apply.

Have a look at press in stud bolts, you might have to ring around for a supplier of 3/8's bsf though.

No mate not tried studlock yet. I was hoping for a mechanical solution that was unbreakable but I will experiment with chemical ones now..

Now that would be awesome if I can find them. They would need to be Brass though and I dont think they exist

If you want enough of them you could get them custom made for a smallish amount, the manufacturer's are already geared up to produce the press in stud, its just a BSF thread you want on the shank.
They are quite often fitted onto electrical equipment as the earthing stud.

This is the thing they are universally used in fishing gear, hence the brass and I am amazed they are not more widely available as they are used in their millions and should be cheap enough..lol

Edit: Had look now, and no. I am sure they did all threads in all applications, though that may have changed.

The quantities may be too small, but you could try, no harm and all that.
