I was...I am really struggling to find a tutorial that shows in Bambu studio mapping the AMS it's one of those things that once I grasp it , it will seem so easy. But for now it's my achilies heel.

I am still not sure how to alter it in Bambu studio but it might become clearer when I get back into the software.
It does show me that you map the colours to the AMS and then the print itself.
I think my problem is I am expecting to have to design colours into a model. Using fusion for example. Perhaps you can do both ( still not sure yet).
There is one statement near the end of the video that shows even he was learning. That was how the purge works.
As he had set AMS 3 slots as grey, the software only purged to clear the nozzle, where if he was changing colours it would do more of a purge. ( my guess is by using a purge riser).
So I think I have learnt a great deal today.

I know nothing, but for the AMS to change colours, it has to be told to. Therefore the command has to be in the Gcode generated by the slicer. For the slicer to know where to insert them, it must be told by the CAD program which created it. So yes, I would say that colour information is designed in at the CAD stage. (Somehow!).
I don't think that is true now I have researched. I think it can be added in the slicer or CAD . But yes it does have to be in the GCode.
I think that was the spark I needed Cura does not allow ( as far as I know) for adding colour. So it confused me.
But Bambu Studio does, even using a paint section...

Yes, just paint it in Bambu Studio and match the colours to those in your ams.
It's the matching I am having problems with.
My first slot did not have a colour but it knew it was full. 2nd said black
3rd and 4th said empty.
I can not find a way of mapping grey 3DQF to slot one.
It simply does not show up when I try to select it....I will try and get a short screen shot to show it.

You have to use the edit function on the device tab. Tell it what type (PLA etc) and the colour (from the colour picker).
Then use resync on the build tab.
If you are still having problems, I will boot up my PC and take a screen shot.
well I have got it to show up now BUT I still dont know how.
I still cant find a build tab. Its not intuative in the slightest.

Sorry for prepare tab I said build as I wasn't in front of the software.
On the device tab you will see all four slots and you need to let the ams know what is in each slot.
The resync button is next to the 'gear' icon on the filament line on the prepare tab.
When you click it, all four slots will show what you have put in them.

I can get to all of that but my problem is randomly I can alter the filament but 99% of the time it does not let me alter it.

Tried to take a screen capture to show what its doing. but as it does nothing its not helpful. lol
I got a little further..
I have now worked out I can change the type of filament if I left click the AMS slot BUT it is critical to click lower in the box. Clicking near the top does not bring up any filament.
That said whilst I can now select the filament, the list does not contain any of my user defined filament.
Are we resyncing to the AMS or from the AMS?
Seems like few people know how to fully use it or if they know they are keeping quiet in the Facebook groups.

You are syncing from the AMS as that is where you set the filament type and colour.
It really is a simple as that.
Then if you want your own profile you pick it from the drop down as per your screenshot.
I have my own for silk and pla which I use for cheaper filament.
A question or three - do you have to use Bambu filament which is on proper Bambu reels with some sort of bar code/ rfid/ QR code, so that the system can automatically recognise what it's using? Also the slicer software - presumably you can't use anything other than what is supplied with the machine?
Just wondering if its a bit of a concern that its all a bit of a closed system, unlike the open-source nature of many other 3d printers, and whether that is any sort of disadvantage.

I think so, for the printer to automatically set up all the optimum parameters for that particular filament then it has to be Bambu's own stuff with the chip thing on the reel. Doesn't stop you using other brands at all though. You then just have to enter it all manually I think.

I personally think it is an advantage if you want it to just print and not be a hobby in itself.
I had other makes and it was constant fussing to be consistent. The P1S just works for me.
Others have a different view but that's up to them. I design it, press send to printer, slice it and print it.
I no longer have to watch the first layer go down wondering if it will fail.
Just my experience mind, others may vary.
