I have one, not bad bit of kit.
One weak point is the locking screws for the tables. But if they do strip out they can be e taped to M10.
MM do decent belts and disc for the machine.
Look around you may find the same machine re branded or the same machine cheaper.

Here is the draper one
Clarke has an enclosed motor arrangement whereas the draper as a slightly more exposed motor set up, otherwise quite similar machines, don't know which one to go for

I've seen the rebadged versions of both machines and there's not much in them to be honest
Intended use is for metal finishing and prep. One of the first uses will be to fairly accurately dress some mitres I'm planning to cut on some angle. Plan is to get approximate with cutting disc on grinder then finish to a line using this type of machine. I understand that good quality belts (zirconium oxide? ) will improve material removal
Plus I've always wanted something like this and no doubt it will find lots of other uses

Both appeal to me due to the cast construction of the base. Not sure to go for the original with ready availability of spares if required, or the clone with bigger motor. Price wise they are both the same

I've had one of this type, although badged as Clarke, since the mid 80's ...probably been used more than anything else I own and still gong strong. I would say, however, that the table for the disc is a bit on the flimsy side, but works well enough.

I have an old Sealey version of the Clarke CS6-9C belt & disc sander which is the bigger free standing version of the CLARKE CS4-6D posted above but nearly 3 times the price new, think I paid £110 for mine used. Motor is a bit undersized for the belt size so get the biggest you can and the disc sander I hardly ever use as changing the disc is a ballache removing the glue and I've removed the disc table as I was fed up walking into it as it increases the machine footprint. Mine has a cast iron table for the belt, not sure if the smaller ones are cast or sheet steel so might be worth bearing in mind if you want a bit more accuracy. I've added a bigger sturdier stop fence which acts as a small table when the belt is in the upright position, great addition. Nearly finished all my brown belts so will be buying adult metal finishing ones soon!

After reading your advice and reviews on the web I kept getting drawn to the Clarke machine below. It's a known brand and comes with a cast iron base, handy for me as it will most probably be moved around as I don't have enough space to leave it permanently bolted down.

I did see that, but it's £112 once the vat is added plus ive then got a 40 mile round trip to go and pick it up.
The one I ordered is £99 and delivered free

It's not very obvious from the web page, but it is £93 incl VAT until the end of Monday - check the top right corner - you have to add that code to get the RRP reduced.
That said, a 40 mile round trip isn't worth it for £6
