One of the reasons it hasn't moved from the hall way is that I have no space in the workshop, no really I dont

A wise word to you Good Sire.
Before sicking the disc on, wipe it down with a solvent to remove the transport/ stowage oil protection.
The disc have a nasty habit of running away.

I do, but I can't bring my self to move workshop stuff into my barn. The barn has comfy sofas, bar, beer fridge and dart board

I do have a project car, a 1977 caddilac seville. Only done 75 miles in the last 30 years !!!!

Got some zirconium belts for the sander from this place

Seemed cheap at £3.14 in vat so I got a few and some flap discs as well. Fast delivery and the belt is excellent.
I'm not connected to this firm in any way just thought it was a good deal.
The machine mart sander is very good too.

Update Time

Ive finally managed to clear the bench and unpack the machine. It's a bit smaller than I was expecting was my first impression. It came very well packed in quite a big box.

Machine came pre fitted with 80 grit belt and disc.

The threaded holes for the stop on the belt were caked in paint, rectified quickly with a tap.

Fitting the belt stop and work table in the disc sander highlighted that they don't automatically fit square. So I set them up with a little fiddling and a small engineers square. Once set the belt stop stayed in position but the table has a tendency to drift a little. Few more goes on it will highlight what mods may be appropriate.

For the first test I went in straight for the kill. Ive got a couple of files that ive annealed to make a knife. I ground the file smooth on both faces using the belt sander with an 80 grit belt. It removed metal easily and will tolerate a reasonable amount of pressure before it stalls. Took me about 30 mins to smooth both sides of a rough wood working file.

Next up was making the point on my now flat file, for this I used the disc sander. This is an altogether different beast. I was going to rough out the shape then grind back to my line but decided to go straight in. All I can saw is I haven't managed to make it stall. With the table set square the old fashioned way and not relying in the markings the cut was bang on.

Now for the important bit, it's not in the same league as a proffesional machine. But it's done everything ive asked of it this afternoon. Its a bit slow but for £100 it's a very usefull addition to my home workshop for general tinkering around. For those that might be wanting one (@skotl) I reckon it's a good bit of kit and used carefully within its limitations will be immensely useful for the home hobbiest.

I've just given my Draper one a good bit of use today making some tank mounting brackets out of 2mm steel. It seems ok but the disc pad has worn out quite quickly.
I think I'll be getting some of those zirc belts and discs soon!
Is there a better way to mount the disc other than sticking it with double sided tape?

I don't know yet as I'm still using the disc that came fitted. I suspect that the trick will be to clean the mating surface. Acetone might be usefull

I've had one of this type, although badged as Clarke, since the mid 80's ...probably been used more than anything else I own and still gong strong. I would say, however, that the table for the disc is a bit on the flimsy side, but works well enough.

Strange....I have one of these and my experience is not brilliant. I am not saying they are no good just that I could not get on with mine.

ive an old sealey version of these machines and i got hold of some velcro discs to stick on to the ally backing disc and use the sanding disks for them ,its literally seconds to change

Ive used mine for the first time today and I like it
