Best 240V compressor for sub £300

Hi guys, looking at getting a new compressor as my little 25L isn't up to the job of powering my air tools, it's good enough for shot blasting and painting but needing something better now.

I'm looking at spending around £300 (preferably less) I have been looking at the 90L Wolf compressor, anyone have any experience with these? They look fairly good 14cfm, 10bar

There was another one by SGS Engineering which is a 100L one V-Twin, but one I've seen says 10bar another says 8, both have 14.6cfm

Are there any others around £300 or less?

Aldi have hot a 50l 3HP v-twin on sale soon for £160. It looks identical to one sold by Machinemart for £260.

It's only 8bar but for the money might be worth a look.

I'm in the same boat as Matt, and had settled on a Clarke. Then the Aldi offers came out and I've since looked at the Wolf 90 on Amazon.
Decisions decisions!

+1 had mine all of three days now and it's great. Much prefer it to the Aldi it replaced.
I recorded the unboxing and setup - need to splice the vid together and get it on youtube.

+1+1=+2! Very, very noisy! That was one of the reasons why I wanted to replace it.

Looks like I'll be going for the wolf one then, to be honest noise doesn't bother me that much as the compressor will be going in my storage room behind my garage anyway

yeah my 2.5hp aldi compressor is bad enough at 87dB, but looks like the picture in the aldi advert shows the 3hp compressors to be 96dB

Excellent point.

I'm in the process of upload my unboxing vid, but the db sticker on the wolf reads higher than the one on the Aldi.
But, as we Scots say, that's utter p*sh... One of the stickers is lying because the wolf is much quieter than the Aldi one...

You're exactly where I was this time last week

Just been using it with the plasma cutter and it's far more pleasant (much longer before cutting in, then runs quietish for a smaller amount of time).

You certainly get a lot of air for the money, my sealey equivalent is nearly 3 times the price. I bought a wolf about 10 years ago before they went bust. only a 2hp 50ltr direct drive and that was £150 back then so they certainly become much better value. That was rated at 97db. My sealey direct drive is also rated at 97db and the belt driven 95db.

Just (literally) playing it by ear, James. I sold the little compressor the other night but I was using the new one today with the cutter and it's night and day.
I don't know which company is wrong, with the Aldi stamp saying 97db and the Wolf one say 99db, but my untrained ear heartily disagrees with these figures.

Also (and this is because it's a 90L tank rather than a 24L one), the fact that the Aldi compressor was pretty much permanently on when cutting was very wearing indeed.

I have a Makita app which has a sound meter on it ;-)

Am I right in thinking Amazon have it pretty much wrapped up with wolf?
