best van for towing car trailer...

Hi, back in the 70s when I first started driving, I had to tow a trailer for a mate and I wasn't sure about doing it and didn't want to get stopped by the police. He told me "Don't worry about it they will be reluctant to stop you because if it turns out to be iffy, what do they do with you. They don't want to end up with you parked up at the side of the road causing an obstruction" Different times.

It is ace for towing.
I have yet to be nicked.
I have been stopped, the nice policeman realised I was old, my van is legal my trailer is legal and let me carry on my merry way.
If I wasn't so old I would pop out and check the max I can tow with the van.
If I can find my licence I will check that, but it wil be bloody confusing.

So, Sprinter ace for towing.

Hi, I often have it said to me "Why do we have to do these drivers CPCs? We don't learn anything sitting in the class, I've been doing this for years." Well, this is why because it keeps you up to date with the latest regs. There are other things to be learnt, drivers hours have been brought into line with working time directive, weight limits, loading and securing of vehicles and loads, changes to licences and so on. People expressing confusion and lack of understanding of different aspects that could land you in trouble highlight this. I think there should come a time when it will be compulsory for all drivers to do it. If you think about it when was the last time you read and answered questions on the highway code?

Car is b, car and trailer is be, c is heavy goods rigid, ce is articulated, d is bus, de is bus and trailer, the rest are motorbikes, scooters, pedestrian controlled vehicles etc etc.

I think you mean C1 & C1E & D1 D1E not C, CE D DE unless you have taken an arctic / lorry & drag & large bus tests.

Your A will be restricted to with the Tri code (three wheeler) unless you have actually taken a motorcycle test.

So they have nothing to do with your age or a pre 97 licence then.

They are from taking actual tests.

it was a sad day for me when my old paper licence had to be replaced by a card thing.

It was becoming worn out, lots of hire and driving companies were having trouble accepting it, then I lost my wallet and everything had to be cancelled and replaced.

best van, without getting involved in the CPC debate, which is very relevant, in my opinion is iveco daily for the reason it can legally tow 3500kg if you get the twin wheel model, also has the advantage of a proper C section chassis. with the high roof you can stand up in the back , unless maybe you are that bit taller .they do have there weaknesses (?) though, axles,electrical gremlins but it seems most makes do. get a qualified mech to check prospective purchase or could be a costly mistake with any commercial vehicle.
depends on weight limit you will be towing , Merc Sprinters are also loverly but far more expensive.best bet is view and test drive a few differant makes before deciding on a specific breed/model, same with everything really !!

Daily is a top van, more like a scaled down truck. Same as the old Renault Master, fantastic build quality aside from the electrics.

they can do mega mileages if serviced properly, one of my chassis cabs has over 524,000 miles, passed last mot straight through.....
