Beware the mot tester

Heres a tip. Don't work over an open drain ! What are you thinking of man ? At least put a board over it.

Another tip. DON'T buy a Transit. They are the rustiest of all the vans, and the least economical.

Years ago, in the Philippines, I was sat in the car waiting for the wife to do something in the bank. Local 'trike' rider pulls up over a storm drain, unscrews sump plug, dumps engine oil down the drain, puts plug back in then tops off his oil.

I was hoping and praying he'd drop the sump plug down the drain.....

Ah that wouldn’t worry about it it’s so choked full dirt it’s blocked to all buggery. Nothing is going down it. May dig it out when I’m finished and have a spare 5 mins.

Yeah don’t normally buy transits as a rule but it was the one that was available at the time and it’s 4x4 so that sold it to me, come in handy more than ounce already.

The only issue with ABS modulators in the K series is lack of maintenance. The brake fluid is usually black and gritty from the original flexibles breaking down and you can't expect a precision modulator to enjoy that experience.

It is a logical system, two wheel circuits, reservoir in the modulator and two actuator circuits with their own reservoirs. It isn't much more complex than bleeding a four wheeled car system. The GS-911 will operate the modulator to quickly flush out the wheel circuits, so as long as you have the funnel in place and watch the level, it's fairly easy.

The BIG issue with removing the ABS, besides safety is insurance. The K1200LT for example was never available without, so most insurance companies will void an accident claim, unless they have agreed the modification beforehand.

Frankly, I like the servo brakes.

Small 110cc honda clone is a heavy load carrier in other countries - a family car even a small truck!

Same modulator on the facelift K1200LT, but you can get away with leaving most of her clothes on. One pain in the bum is that the one reservoir is right underneath a frame tube, which makes life interesting for the funnel. In the end I used a household funnel and a rubber bung with a hole in it. First time I did the job, I was a bit enthusiastic with the servo assist and emptied the reservoir in a blink!

I said above that the GS-911 is required for bleeding but it isn't, that is just for pressure testing on completion and just operating the brake lever starts the modulator pump.

This for interest, is the iABS modulator. The two black pillars under the (2) ident are the reservoirs for the wheel circuits.

I've repaired a few modules, normal failure is the motors packing up.

Always wince when sat in traffic on an incline and the ABS servo motor humming away but that's how it's designed.

They are nice to use as you say.

I agree - I would have not ground them back either - it is on the inside. Load of seam sealer (roof/gutter sealant) - would make it look OK.

Gutter sealant/ seam sealer would have fixed it with out welding!!! Bit of bodge, and underseal, has past many an mot in days gone by

Normally wouldn’t have bothered with that but but kept blowing holes so was just checking there wasn’t a whole load of them lurking and it was solid.

Yeah unfortunately no other space available may have ****** off a neighbour or two a little bit but I’m sure they will get over it, have tried to be as considerate as possible.

After living in Thailand for a couple of years, with a gazillion similar scoots running around, then working in Vietnam, which was even worse, I was very surprised to find virtually no little bikes or scooters in the Phils when I went there. Turns out there was 100% import duty on vehicles, so it was cheaper to buy a locally hand built Jeepney than a new Honda 90, or similar.

Importing vehicle used parts was duty free, so they brought in tons of stripped cars and trucks and built the ubiquitous Filipino Jeepneys.

Something like this, rock bottom base model, was less than £500 to buy 'new' back in the 90's.
