Does your handle slide freely? Mine won't budge and I can see no reason why. I may have to apply some heat and see if that helps.

I had another look at mine yesterday and managed to free up the handle (it was full of rusted junk) and so now it moves reasonably freely. Strange thing is the screw end cap thing almost appears bellmouthed (the hole isn't parallel) but on inspection I don't think this is through wear. It looks more like the way it was made. I'm tempted to bore it out and sleeve. I'll post a photo when I get a chance and then maybe we can compare?Yes the handle slides very freely as I think over the years the hole has enlarged I was thinking of maybe making a thicker handle at some point.
Right now the emphasis is on making a stand for it.. ( I have a truck flywheel for the base- must remember to remove the ring gear)
Remember these things were made long before Lathes and milling machines were invented so holes are never completely round.I had another look at mine yesterday and managed to free up the handle (it was full of rusted junk) and so now it moves reasonably freely. Yes mine is pretty much like that
Interesting as I don't think it could have been drilled that way (the hole doesn't have parallel sides) but the bell mouthing doesn't look like it has developed through wear.Yes mine is pretty much like that
