British Army truck question

Made a call to a mate who has one, he says you have to go under the truck and rotate it manually on his and feed the cable through the appropriate guide tube, unlock the top roller on the fairlead and pull the cable end through, lower and lock the top fairlead and use as a normal winch.

The scottish councils had a fair bit of decent kit, I bought this V8 6x6 iveco ( rebadged Maggy Deutz ) which was an ex council gritter. It was already piped for lots of hydraulics so I am converting it to a log truck. Twenty ton hydraulic winch up its chuff, crane and decent spades, its work in progress and on the back burner for the moment while I have a major tidy up.

Back to the "Moggies" the "Crabs, Sorry @mrfuzzy The RAF had theirs fitted with a removable drum winch.

The theory was it could be dismounted, 6 pins and 2 quick release oil couplings. Then 2 (my cross bred donkey) could lift it off one end and refit to the other. Would like to see that, the winch weighed in at 150kg.

I joined 2010, started process in 2009 (even then they wanted engineering officer candidates), took me about 10 months, would have been less but paperwork got held up.

Fitness is a big thing, if you can run a mile and a half in under 8 minutes you should be fine, one of the arabs (UK.gov gets paid to train people from the mid east) reckoned he could run it in 6:25 but why bother when the PTIs were really pleased with 7:10, yet all of them chain smoked and lived in a diet of junk foods bought from the shop on site...quite a few of the others could outrun a stabbed rat also...)

Other thing is looking at current deployments, what ships the navy has (I think it totals less than 40 now...lol) and what they do

They've changed a few things prob since I joined (I think the aptitude test has a new name..)

Before My knee decided that it didn't want to play ball I was on for joining a Reme ta detachment. I had to do a trade suitability aptitude test to make sure I was capable, despite being civvy time served..... madness

Its also I think to make sure you think "the military way" and sometimes to see if your suited better to something else.

I'm a sheet metal worker, and was going to be a metal smith! Unfortunately as I said an old knee injury has resurfaced with a vengeance and put paid to running round :/

If you are after a truck with a winch. Have a look for a MAN truck.
On the Load bed, under a hatch was a 5 ton winch. This fed the wire rope through a 4 roller Fairleigh. This allowed it to go For, aft, left and right. All be it with a grunt going underneath to route it.

Tell Tell sign it is fitted, as not all had end rollers fitted is,
1 Look underneath.
2 under seat on the vertical metal of the seat base a leaver.

A lot of the MANs were sent to the UK with it fitted, but not as a specification.
