Will do pete. I was going to but had to spend a day taking up the old floor in the bedroom...a joyful task...notLevelling across the beds is far more useful if you have a long enough level. Do it at the chuck and at the tailstock then adjust the tail end feet so the readings match. Level is not important - the same both ends really is.
I had them in the citric over night.
Boiling hot water. And 4 to 6 of these. They've come out nicely - what dilution rate did you use? And, cold I assume?
This morning's task.
Sort out the dickson tool post and holders. I had them in the citric over night. Came out nice. A little bit of stone work is needed . I will then re tap all the threads. 3/8 unc if anyone wants to know. View attachment 191522
I have a collection of dickson tool posts. S2. S3. And the big S5. They are available but do hold money. The holders are very expensive. But its being in the right place at the right time. I use the citric because it's nice and easy and cheap.Where do you find reasonably priced Dickson tool posts? They always seem to go for silly money.
Have you tried electrolysis? How does it compare with the citric acid?
They do pop up for sale now and then.I bought a baby S0 for the Bantam. Really it needs an S1 but I had never seen one of either come up. The S0 is new old stock, I’ll make a spacer for it to bring it up to centre height.
Dickson tool post and holders are now complete. Added some new studs.View attachment 192228 View attachment 192229 View attachment 192230
These ones had a bend in them. So cut some 12.9 hardened bolts and loctite them inMore often than not I find Dickson tool holders with stiff screws are actually bent studs. They are quite susceptible to knocks.
