id rather go through the side than the roof as the roof gets the brunt of the weather

That's the dilemma. It's an 8' wide roof, curved so not MUCH runoff, but with the weather we're getting...


But what I'm NOT hearing is "Don't do it. It will leak like a sieve......".

So, I think I'll go straight up, and tiger seal the silicone/EDPM flashing in. I'll tap the tin up in a lip, so anything that gets past the seal will not get in.

because just fitting the chimney in is not the only thing you have to do

you have to fit a water seal above the chimney to the other side to stop the water collecting on each channel where the chimney goes through depending where you fit it

so if using corugated sheets you need a cover to fit over 4-5-6 depending on the size of chimney hole your using

The chimney people sell these things.

They fold into the corrugations and are sealed and stitched in with Tek screws.

I wouldn't consider going through the roof, too many problems to solve.

It's the plastic panelling on the outer wall that bothers me. It's not a conventional wall . . . .

Space the pipe on the outside further away the wall, and/or use twin wall for the flue.

It will be twin wall for sure. Seems a smarter way of doing it than the single flue : should draw better

I'll think about it but I'm 60:40 in favour of the roof right now. Simpler, cheaper, playing against risk of leaks. If I bend the tin up around the pipe then the risk of leak is hugely mitigated.

If you go straight out the roof on the very top of the curve I doubt you will have much trouble sealing it, it gets harder further down the roof as you then get puddling in the corrugations

That's exactly the fear. I'm still thinking it through. Can't stand leaks in roofs.

Further thinking. There's an overlap in the roof where the flue might go. This switched the thinking slightly in favour of the wall.

Impossible packing problems can be solved with extenders.

I've ordered some ferrules that take two wires, but the darn things haven't shown up. Not sure whether to give up, get my cash back, and do a workaround, or wait.

This wire should have fed the central lights, but no continuity; either I cut it by accident or it was done wrong along the way

Somehow, and I'm not certain how, I've to get this lot to hide in the wall, or under the table, so that a laptop can power a TV that will pivot out from the gap in the plasterboard.

Ambitious. But I do like a technical challenge...... Especially when management is sharing the cost.....

Fitting the monitor into the hole in the plasterboard will be difficult, and having the ability to pivot the thing out, will be difficult. Ensuring the whole assembly fits flush into the hole will be difficult. I've not thought about the writing for all this, but I'm expecting it to be difficult.
