If you're going to weld it make sure you tack it in place first before doing any long runs... and give it a good clean afterwards for the best results.

the cheapest way to weld it probably using the stainless-steel welding rod 2.5mm should be fine they can be hard to keep steady so it might be best to hold it with both hands
and used some ant-splatter spray

Yes it's the cleaner, doing her CPD in welding. She does a mean root run with a lavvie brush, likes to keep the butts squeaky clean. Does her nut in when there is too much side wall fusion, she's also firm that folks don't use too much pre & post gas.

Stick to the SWPS and you'll be fine

i thought of this tread and nearly ****** my self

you guys are good, yes top marks to those who thought it was the hinge and i think it's stainless, just needs a couple of tacs to hold the arm back in the cup. Looking into trying to get a new one but as it was bought from B&Qrap not holding out much luck although will keep looking. The course is back in my old town of Edinburgh at telford college, anybody on here been there i wonder. All this time iv'e been trying to think of a bog joke but think you guy have pulled my chain enough.

Seems to have been a really bad question to ask on here. While all the replies have been great fun I felt I should add a little in case you wanted an actual useful response.

I am not the world's authority on these things, but I think the hinges tend to be cast from a cheap aluminium alloy (the generic term is monkey metal) and then chromed.

Repairs will be nasty - you would probably need to remove the chrome, identify the alloy, find a sensible filler rod (4043 is my uneducated guess), and then TIG it. It's not worth the bother. Especially if it's one of the wooden ones which delaminate as soon as you look at them.

But TIG is still well worth learning - it's very satisfying to do and has so many applications, some even outside the world of toilet seats.

Hi All
Googled into here as my toilet seat broke so i decided to try and weld it, but i don't know how to weld, then i found this site and i still don't know how to weld but i did find a link to a college that has tig courses starting in Febuary. Always wanted to weld as like plastering i think of it as an art as apposed to most trades that you could have a bash at without much knowledge. Anyway hope to learn some stuff of you guys.
