Can someone recommend a wire stripper

I was looking e bay but you just don't know from a photo if you are looking at tat or half decent. There was one pair that was described in the 'catch all' description as wire stripper crimper.

I always rely on the members on here and have always been pleased. I don't need top notch, just half decent for my needs,

underground telephone cable? aerial cable? 0.5mm flex? 25mm welding cable?

Good for fine electrical (7/0.2) up to 13A mains wire, and handy in confined spaces.

But don't buy any lookalikes. There's some cheap tat out there that couldn't justify being described as a tool, even when the word is used in the most derogatory manner!!

That 0 3 - 7mm is a good range. £22 now at RS. Still, it's cheaper than my dentist. I have been cutting around the insulation then pulling it off with my teeth.

The 0.2 -7mm will be fine for my needs.Just copper wire, usually twin & E etc.

Fire seems to be the favourite method around here..
Half the gateways around me seem to have charred piles of cable insulation in them!

Most (maybe all?) of the RS stuff is rebranded so it's worth doing some research although it's not unusual to find the rs badged version is cheaper than oem or comes bundled as a kit making it better value.

I have the CK ones at a similar price , I'm impressed with the range of sizes , specially the smaller data cables it manages to strip.
They don't use a blade like some clones , it's purely a tension pulling operation.
I've been using them for a while (not every day tool but regular) and they seem to be doing well.

only down side's

Some 2.5mm flex its a struggle to fit the sheath in it.
If the cable insulation is old and "shinny", they sometimes struggle with it
The ruberised tough flex , it doesn't always strip the same length as the insulation stretches.
Sometimes a piece of insulation gets stuck in the mechanism and you have to pull thinking face to figure out whats going on.

For general DIY - mains, lighting, automotive - I've found a pair of these to be rather good:

And like most Aldi stuff, I bought a spare for when it bust . . . spare still in the packet after a few years.

I have a pair of very similar design with less plastic strapped around them, and they do sometimes fail to reset the cable gripper - a quick flick with a finger and go to go again.

Not sure which makes I tried but I bought quite a few pairs, and sent them back if they cut any strands in fine wire.
Some of them even nibbled the copper when stripping thick wire
I ended up with a pair from Weicon, they were the only ones not to cut any strands of copper in very thin wire.

The CK and Aldi clones 'pull and rip' are excellent for electrical work, you can strip outer and inner with no conductor damage.
