So was your problem the hobbyweld Argon?
I too really struggled with my first (and only) attempt with ally. I got it done, but was a struggle with much the same issues as you.
Maybe its not really that pure?
Everyone on here will tell you these are bad news - with good reason. And, even when you buy a 30l or whatever size the hobbyweld comes in, you'll be surprised how long it doesn't last when your practicing, but practice you must.
Maybe not so relevant with the weather warming, but you should also pay some attention to your mask - mine has allways suffered from misting up - either on the inside of the protective lense, or, if I've left it out in my workshop, in between the lense and filter. Keeping the mask in the house prevents the second issue, but up to now the only fix for the first has been to make a cardboard seperator, modelled around my nose, to stop my breath swirling up onto the lense. It works quite well, and beats holding your breath.
I'm working on a simple filtered air feed using a dc snail blower from a computer, which I'll mount on a belt with a couple of nicads.

nice beads! are you using the pedal to modulate the amps or are fixed amp runs? what thicknes\amps setting?

on ac there is no polarity so doesent matter what side leads are in toNo you don't, you just flick the switch from DC to AC.
All TIG welding has the torch on the Negative.

Unless you have a machine with modern features like cap shaping and balance controls... in which case yes it does matter...
