this is a little older model, newer is a little bigger.
that makes things much easier then, the gear stick will be between the seats ?
do they make a later version of a renault 4 or other model with the same layout of engine and gear box ?
l think that you may struggle to keep the weight down to your target, one of my pals biult this buggy, everything was kept to a minimum things like the disc brakes were turned down to shed wieght, absolutly no excess weight anywhere, even the engine and box were chosen because they were the lightest that he could find, shell is bonded aliminium sheet with no chassis, well not in the conventional sense you might call the roll cage the chassis with the body under slung l supose, even after going to extremes it still wieghted in at a touch over 600kg, good luck
Those photos are from my projects covered on www.renault4.co.uk - I thought they looked familiar.
The engine in the photograph is from a Renault5 MK1 Alpine. It is 1389cc and should be good for 93bhp. The Mk1 Renault 5 engine installation was very similar to the Renault 4 but all of the engines were more powerful. The carburettor and inlet manifold from a R5 1108 will give you 10 more bhp.
Post some photos of the build when you start.
Sam, what dimension tubes have you used for that one? It's gorgeous!!
h'mm a rorty ?
l bought the plans of rorty also, but l dont think l have the comitment needed to cut all those tubes up and weld them together, might have to buy one done or pay some one to weld the frame up,
some nice bits on your buggy there sam, its very hard to get under 500kg but you might make it with a mc engine and no reverse box,
Marks buggy has a citroen engine, saxo or its predecessor, this was chosen as its the lightest engine and box he could get, well cheaply anyway, its an all alliminium engine and box normally front wheel drive but in this case its beside the driver with the drive shafts feeding the front and rear axle and the gearbox diff welded up
