Cat Tree House

The start of a cat vantage point / lookout / tree house for them. I was going to use the pallet then decided to go higher. It'll now be triangular on plan. Just resting on rather than nailed / screwed to the old apple tree.

Currently strapping bits of old bunk bed to the apple tree with M8 studding. Then I'll cut to fit, the other two sides. Some pallet wood on top. A hole through the platform so they can use the tree as a natural ladder.

Might have to do a "log bridge" from the garden wall for the old one.

Then think about some sides and a roof maybe.

Ditched the bunk bed bits.

Got some roughly 3" x 3" timbers. Came from New Zealand about 20 years ago as packing in shipping containers. Still fairly good. I'll take it apart & drown it in something nasty to kill anything. Screwed together each corner with 6" timberlock style screws:

If you just leant the pallet against the tree, it would sit on the narrowest bit.

Anything to get me out of the house! The pinus radiata has had a coat of No Nonsense wood treatment from the bottom of a can I was about to ditch. PU glued on all the corners and some corner braces screwed in.

Next a few cross braces and a pallet wood top.

Cost so far is zero. I may have to go to the pub and celebrate.

I fixed an offcut of ply in an Elder tree in my yard for the table feeding birds in the winter, I used to replenish the food with a plastic cup stuck to a length of bamboo. We had a very boisterous cat for a year, a former stray who disappeared almost a year ago, a sad loss to us. He was a natural climber, a skilled descender too and found the ply perch soon after he got used to his new home chez moi, he slept on it many times during the summer. There is a new stray that has set up shop in my neighbours barn, I saw his tail dangling from the small platform a few days ago.

I'll bite, HTF did you get the cutting angles marked? Did you descend after marking the brace pieces and cut them on the ground level?

Clamped the first bit level against two branches. Laid the second bit on top and marked the angle. Cut it on the ground. Repeat. Had a second pair of hands which helped.

The platform is only about 5' off the ground.

Second pair of hands always helps, I call it the holding things boss, she feels important with that title.

this one I did earlier in the old house.....our cats loved it......great fun jumping from the tree onto the sofa.....
this was a little Oak tree growing on the property.....
the morons that bought the place will have burnt it on the fire by now....
