Possibly due to the built-in regulator.

There are a few things. For basic workshop, & likely intermittent, air tool use, not much is actually required from a compressor. For running tools for any length of time, it's a different matter. Spray guns are obviously going to generally require a decent flow, to fulfil their function. But again, intermittent or touch-up use wouldn't likely need that much.

End of the day it's a balance. You need enough workshop space & a beefy enough supply for larger stuff. Not something everyone has, hence a small unit fits their needs well enough.

I've just bought a compact, silenced compressor from them Think mine is supposedly rated around 7. Should be here Monday. It'll only be used for odds & sods, so I don't need a large unit, & hopefully it'll fit nicely under the bench. This is the one I've ordered:

SGS don't have much of a reputation for customer service when things go wrong. I had to invoke a Section 75 claim against them. There will be other sellers of the same beast with different paint, including Machine Mart. Have a look around.

Thanks for the heads up, soooo many compressor brands out there it's unbelievable. Any recommendations appreciated, remember I only need it for spraying, will never be used for anything else.

Problem with MM is they can't ship to Northern Ireland, I spoke to them yesterday. BREXIT!!!!

Do you have Halfords in NI. They sell compressors, so will many of your agi or industrial suppliers

They're usually notably more expensive too. I've bought some things from them, but usually prefer to buy elsewhere.

If I ever personally have a problem with SGS, that's when I'll stop using them.

What is the solution to to your work area work area being say 20 meters from a plug socket? I assume an extension lead is not acceptable so I suppose it's a longer hose?

I'd go with a long hose.

As the motor will be fairly high current is better to use a longer hose rather than use an extension lead,
