You don’t grind anything thing off. A punch with a point deals with the rivets

You have done it? I have doubts that a rivet will punch and be reusable, but I will try it.

Had a look at LS. I cant see an 8" 1/4p 1.1mm chain, or spare rivet links. There is a 10" Stihl MS150T chain and bar that could possibly be made to fit tho.

Yep, repaired loads of chains using the rivets I’d removed

Looking at the tool you've bought an I right in thinking it came with a 4" bar and chain!! if so it will not run a 8" bar and chain let alone a 10" bar and chain, you'll just burn out the motor.

It will run an 8 or 10" but that doesnt mean its a good idea to cut a 10" tree with it. Motor has good power for its size, but its a cheap and easily replaced brush motor, so dont worry about that. Its only going to get lightly abused.

@Migmac I had a go last night, couldnt get a rivet to budge by punching it, so ground off the heads on one. Im thinking I could reuse the rivets with a blob of weld to retain it, if I later wanted to use those chains.

Tried LS, they cant make custom 1/4P chains, only biggger stuff.

Phoned Rotatech, hey are going to make up a couple of these for me tomorrow. Price is good, too.

With the longer bar and no chain break it scares me a little. Going to add a top guard with an electrical cutout, and possibly second handle where the bar nut is.
Great tool for the weight of it !
