Hi to all,I am new to this forum,I use mig for the odd job & have rented a cylinder from a local outlet (In Gloucestershire) for the past five years.
This deal is very cost effective for us DIY or small garage users when compared to disposable/BOC/Air products/staytes cylinders.

Infact I liked it so much I have just aquired the gas side of the business due to the owners retirment!!!
I am unsure whether the rules allow gratuatus advertising here (MOD???) but please watch this space or send me a message.I will post details/prices and available areas (if allowed) If you are a trade counter looking to stock gas I may also be able to assist.

Sounds like you had a Victor Kiam moment. Strictly speaking advertising isn't allowed, but it's always good to know about cheaper sources of gas for DIY welders.

Anyway it works like this,
I supply 5 & 10 Litre portable cylinders of (Gargage Gas) Argon shield mix for MIG OR Pure Argon for TIG applications at present.

Example for a 10L Garage Gas cylinder,£38.75 +vat for a Three Year Rental £22.50 +vat for a 10L refill,£25.75 for a returnable cylinder deposit,where you really save your hard earned cash is on the cylinder rental.

(These are list prices,regular refillers may even get some discount )

10L is the same as BOC size X bottles (right?). If so the bottle rental savings look very attractive.

Looking forward to an independent dealer turning up in the Bedford area. Rental prices are a killer for me - I've got size Y Argon and Argon/CO2 mix bottles at the moment, and I reckon on £200 per year at my low usage.

Unsure what the size of an X bottle is but our 10 litre is a simalar size to a pubgas CO2 bottle (with approx 8 hours of use)

Like you I am stuck with BOC as there`s not another alternative ....in Scotland anyway. Course it`s a rippoff but how else can some off the directors of that company afford the huge properties they have bought!!

re your gas ? if your serious about your welding and the qaulity use a good gas. i like cougar 5 for my mig. i used to have a supplier locally who as long as you had an empty(air products) he would swap for a full one. sad to say he has gone( like most eventually do). air products now want close to £100 per year for the pleasure + a refil cost!. boc the same. they are all clamping down big time now. if your serious forget the pub/club gas route. tried it on a mates setup. i think its terrible compared to a good gas mix. as i said if your doing a fair bit of welding. get an account with one of them. good luck

Due mainly to the cost of renting a bottle from one of the main suppliers not to mention the high cost of the fill I would say use CO2 for diy car body work,The mixes are of course better as a world of research and development has gone into them, Generally if using CO2 for prolonged periods you should have a heated regulator as icing can occur, The peno will be fine but the arc is less refined and harsher the peno profile of CO2 is a thinner deeper tongue shape rather than the more even wider profile of the active gas mixes you can weld a test piece with different gasses and then macro etch it to see the peno for yourself, you just weld a test piece the cut it in half with a saw and then file and polish the cut edge untill its as smooth and scratch free as possible the apply an acid solution to that edge and just like a photographic negative you will see the peno profile show up, the correct solution for etching steel will be unobtainable to jo public but you can do it with batt acid with a little patience but TAKE GREAT CARE!!!! to have you eyes and other exposed parts well covered and don't breath in the fumes, (pure argon is not good on mild steel with mig/mag it leaves a rough looking weld and sooty deposits.)

I Use Energas they are Hull based but have outlets accross the UK.. i pay £4 per month for my migshield argon mix and £19 for a fill, mini sized - bit smaller than a pub CO2 bottle, and i pay £6 a month for a midi Oxy and same again for a mini Acetylene
cheapest i can find and EXCELLENT SERVICE!!
the beuty is i can take the bottle back when im finished so im not paying just for the gas to be sat there, and get another when i need it.
