I also just picked up the thread about supplies in Northampton; nearest is Dunstable which might be a bit of a trek, I will let you all know if/when we have someone closer.

gasman whats the closest outlet to hull? ive just got a new mig welder but dont have the money for the gas yet lol, im lucky to have energas which is cheaper then boc and air products but id still rather not deal with renting as i wont use it loads, id need to work out whether its cheaper to rent it or go for a drive to pick up a bottle

Try R&R Gases, I use them as my supplier, you dont pay rental on the cylinder, they supply 10 litre cylinders, bigger than anyone else I could find, and they are pumped to a higher pressure. They also deliver nationally, I think it cost me about £10. You do have to pay a one off packaging cost, but you must keep the wooden crate, in order that you can get a refill. You actually buy the cylinder, so it is yours it comes with a test certificate. If you already have a cylinder thaey will refill it for you with whatever gas you require. Tel 01726 882615

Mig Bottles None hire

Hi I heared about HSS Hire doing exchanges for pub gas bottles with BOC bottles so went to check it out, got myself 2 BOC bottles for my mig welding.
Then after about 8months the guys at BOC said why dont you use Argon istead it gives a better weld save on wire (less splatter) so next time i went to HSS i asked about the ARGON and now i am the proud user of BOC ARGON (large size bottles)with no hire or rental charges.
And you dont have to give your personal details to anyone,thus BOC will not be checking or charging you for using these bottles.

Try going to where the pubs go... Look up Beer and wine celler supplies in your area. Got one new bottle of co2 from one supplier in Bristol, think that one was £45 with gas (guy said it was less before but cos he did not get bottles back he now adds on bottle deposit) Also already had a bottle from another beer and wine supplier and got that refilled for about £15.
If they ask if you want it for welding say yes (be honest) and say you will be using about one a year (otherwise they think they won't see there bottle again!) One I had refilled was from 2004, Opps (over it's 4year test)

Hi all.
I tried the pub bottle route without success, unless I was willing to buy a bottle at £50. I went for a fire extinguisher at £10 a bottle and it's fine! I set it up upside down so it doesn't freeze and have been getting in a lot of practice. I would like to use a mix but my cheapest route is with Siggas in Glasgow and it is just a bit too expensive for me just now even at his very cheap prices, main reason is because I only have plans to use the welder for about two or three days on one important job on my car, then just minor hobby stuff if that even.

Unsure what the size of an X bottle is but our 10 litre is a simalar size to a pubgas CO2 bottle (with approx 8 hours of use)

Hello, just joined this forum today as a hobby welder, classic cars etc. I have a mig welder and an oxy-acetylene setup. However I feel I am paying a fortune on rental for the 3 bottles of gases, the smallest ones, from BOC. I also hear there is a charge of about £10 on top of purchase price on every transaction?

My question is where can I get cheaper bottles? I don't do too much welding so I use very little gas. I have been told pub CO2 is cheap, but not as good as the argon mix. What do you all use?

wow, that seems cheap for 20 litres of pure argon at the bottom there! I am paying just over the £100 for a refill!
