Overall, without being specific to any one bike - if you look at the stuff on bikes (& cars come to that) - you can see the interest of many is turning towards the machines that are the least complicated electrically/electronically.
It's not just us older guys now appreciating the robust relative simplicity of older stuff - there's a more widespread disillusionment I think with the "keep out" black box management & control.
Hence I think the appeal of stuff like the 2-valve Beemers, big Suzuki's, etc. Usable performance, home maintenance within the realm of non-NASA people. Old but still usable etc.
Uts no coincidence why a lot of the older more utilitarian Honda's are now again popular (Benly's, CD's, Cubs etc) - economical and good parts availability from the likes of Dave Silver.
The FJ11/12 & XJR12/13 should IMO fit the bill for a bigger bike.
If they haven't already, the Kwak W650 ticks all the boxes.
Anything that was basically good but never caught on when new so not many about (think Honda X11 - I had one), maybe my R1150R Rockster??
If you think MUCH newer, the only biggish bike that still has a throttle cable and fits the remit of being good without OTT complexity is Yamaha's very good MT-07???
Edit: I'd think (again if not already) - the Yam XT singles from 350 up to the 660 Tenere, and the twin XTZ750 (if anyone has seen one in years) - also the FZ600 & FZ750 20-valve (think the FZ750 is very rare now, and it was a stonking bike, fast and very reliable - again I had one for a few years & should have kept it

I think you and I must think similar. I make my living on classic vehicles but actually don’t own a ‘real’ classic can you believe? The nearest I’ve got is a Seat arosa tdi pre- CAN bus. I chose that as I wanted a modernish vehicle but old simple electrics so that was last in the line of ‘fun’ vehicles before it’s ‘throw away’ status. It’s used every day and soooo cheap to run.OK

Anything air cooled is an asset if you look from the point of an accountant or plain fun if you look from a passion view.
What I predict is the ‘plastic’ sports bikes are slowly being pushed away and the ‘humble’ small bike is re-appearing. The British scene is a bit too old and most people have now early ‘Japanese’ bike memories which run into the eighties where bikes changed to experimental tech like anti dive, turbos, early lcd clocks and so on. What people forget is big is not best at all but the small stuff is far more interesting. I’ve also noticed a lot of Italian classics about as they have also some charisma about them that others don’t then there’s early German stuff which are quirky and built so well but back to the trend…..
It’s the simple stuff that wins because it lets you bond as fixing for me in the garage when it rains is as good as riding in the dry.

The problem with race machines (not road registered) is that they attract capital gains tax etc. treated the same as works of art etc. road registered machines are treated as depreciating assets, no tax due!Thats a fairly balanced overview @addjunkie
My younger brother has built up a fair collection of ex works racers, he buys/trades them, they seem to do well. Last one I sat on and rode was a road registered TZ750,scared the life out of me.

The zrx1100 I think is a nice looking modern retro bike that’s sure to go up

You would be surprised how many race bikes are bought and sold for cash. No paper trail. My old accountant had a collection of race bikes all bought for cash including my CR93, part of his pension fund he reckoned.

I listed after a ZRX when they came out. I think maybe the ZRX12 is the better of the two, but both are cracking bikes, and yes should fit the bill
Yep, the GTS is a good shout. Rare and a decent weirdo.
Also the MT-01 with the over-bored Cruiser Vee in it (again if they aren't already - I know I should have bought one when they were cheap)

Me too. It'd make a great runaround and fun Sunday bike, without being too OTT powerful, fast, silly and licence-shredding.
I reckon they might be a future appreciating classic too, so a wise buy.
