Coating concrete

My work shed concrete floor has always dusted badly, & I've been wondering how I could address that (short of expensive self-levelling epoxy screeds etc) for ages!

SBR! Brilliant! I'll have to give that a go!

The big difficulty now though is actually being able to find the floor to seal it.

Coatings are all very well so long as the surface bow can hold together enough to maintain them. Aot also depends on what use you're putting it to. Foot traffic is unlikely be a problem but moving heavy objects about or using ramps or axle stands will just tear the surface and the coating along with it.

So used this and applied first coat tonight. But unsure how many coats to do ???????

I did a 3-1 mix for first coat but then after i will go 2-1, that sound good ??

Oh and if any is wondering the i used 2l of the 503 for 15sqm of dusty concrete.

For those who are interested in this, update number 2

Did the last coat of the Everbuild 503 SBR. So first coat was 1-3 then 1-2 then last 1-1

Oh and i got it off Amazon for i think £13, for 5l.


I slipped up a little as i added more than than i needed to the last coat so it puddled a bit so after a few hours i went back in and rolled it over a few more time to spread it more even.

This was a VEERY dusty loose floor, you can scrape it up with your foot to loosen the surface.

Now it is great, no more dust Its a little tacky, very little, i did it last night so 24hrs ago.

I will be painting it next weekend so a good 8 days before i do so it will have set fully.

Hard bit now is to choose a colour which i cant do ha ha green or grey but which, cant decide.

Chose this paint though.

Most factory floors are reinforced concrete floors, and this must obviously have sufficient strength to support all of these loadings and uses. My concrete slab has been down 4 weeks can I now paint it.

Light grey if you want to find stuff you've dropped. Darker colours make it harder to spot small items on the floor.

You also get improved lighting overall if the floor is a lighter colour as it reflects it back upwards.

I ha e been able to do ha e the floor as the other half is new concrete so I'll have the same trouble in a few moths when I can paint that half lol. The SBR I used went along way aswell. 5l did 3 coats of 15sqm.

I just ordered 5L, I may have a little bit somewhere to kick off with, wish I had known about this last year when I built the new one

Is it just the 5sqm . I think roughly what 15m x 30cm would be. Doubt you would need much if it's good concrete.

its good for sealing plaster walls and ceilings for re skimming or tiling. used also when tanking walls for damproofing

i have a double garage that is bad, I have the workshop whick is also bad and the new shed which is not that bad as it is new, talking 10x3m 6x6m and 4x4m but the is no way i can do the whole lot in all of them so it will just be the middle/walking/working areas that get the SBR
