Compressor cutting out ? Help please

So I brought a compressor off DrNic on here and I have switched it on and it fires up for around a minute then cuts out. So I press the reset button and it fires up for around 20 seconds and stops again , at this point I just want to cry as I am not sure what the fault is ?

So far all I have done it drained 8 pints of rusty crap out of the tank and wired up a plug to test it..

Yes reset button is on the motor as that's whats cutting out ?

try running it with the drain cock open so it doesnt build up pressure and see how long it runs for if not long try running with the belts off. while the belts are off crank the pump by hand make sure its free running

Ok I shall try that tomorrow thank you , if I try it with the belt off and it still cuts out could that mean the motor is at fault ? are they expensive to replace ?

possibly be the capacitors down they can be had cheap enough just get the values of them and ebay or some other source of supply, a new 3hp motor would be about 90 quid

Ok shall do the tests tomorrow and see what the results are ...

I had the same problem with mine so just bypassed the reset button

after doing other checks like the compressor turns by hand

runs great now but did check for overheating a few times but alls good

Is this the capacitors ? on top of the motor ..

yes it might be worth a shot taking the air filter off and check its not blocked as well . wishfull thinking

Yes I have done that and washed it out and drying on radiator ...

What plug have you fitted? Is it running off an extension lead?

No extension lead and normal house hold plug ..

I took the belt off and the motor ran fine did not stop etc , I cranked the pump by hand and it is free running ?

I'm sure it's a faulty overload fuse

Out of the two cylinder type things in the photo above any idea one the one I need to replace ?

I have pm'd DrNic on here who I brought it from and asked if he had any problems with it before he sold it too me but no reply I never saw it working as my friend in Bristol picked it up for me on the way up to west midlands ..

Why don't you just join the two wires from the reset button together and see if it runs ok
