Compressor loose wire in plug

Yeah it was bought faulty.tank holds pressure when switched off,no air leaks etc.as said everything stripped clean up and reassembled with new gaskets.i did strip the pressure switch down aswell and noticed just a tiny bit of crap in where the exhaust tube fits into it(the tiny spring loaded pin what shuts it off at pressure)so guess that wasn’t helping.just grabbing a new safety valve now from maccy mart,and will report back

You need to be looking at the pump again if you've got no leaks only 4 things can stop it, piston rings, Reed valves gaskets or a crack in the reed block etc

its also quite easy to disconnect pipework and blow/suck in the head inlet and outlet to give an idea of how well everything is sealing without a full stripdown, but i cant get my head around why the safety valve would be a potential if its holding air, unless its blowing off at your 60psi?

Well,i can now report its fixed.weather it was the dodgy wire or tiny bit of crap in the pressure valve,i have no idea,so cheers everyone

Well, it was neither of those. The wire would have affected the motor (not the pump) and the pressure switch was clearly not even close to needing to stop the motor. The snooper had his aim firmly targeting the pump - and so did I.

Jury’s out in my mind. Fixing multiple issues in one go… will never know for sure …. Still think a slow running motor under load cuz of low voltage and hence slow running pump might have been the cause

Motor does seem to spin a bit faster,as before there seemed to be a lot more slapping about of the drivebelt,if you get what i mean.

Are you quietly admitting it was just a slipping belt all along? I think you are. Amazing.

My reliable old compressor pump (well over 30 years old) runs at just over 700rpm (and, no, your motor will be running at either 1425 or 2800 rpm. (dependent on whether it is a 2 or 4 pole motor). It will not operate at a significantly lower speed on a 50Hz supply - unless severely over-loaded.

I recently needed to tension the two link belts on my compound compresor. I actually replaced them (they may even have been over 40 years old) with a couple of V belts.

The full stop in the first paragraph was intentional, btw.
