Theres several posts regarding these restrictive regs on the small compressors, changing the one thats on it, or adding a 1/2" filter/regulator extra direct on the tank is well worth it, they don't come with a water filter anyway which is something you need anyway.

Hi mate,

This is what i did:





i got the fittings from a local supplier together they all cost about £10. they are called Malleable type fittings and You will need the following:

2 x 1/2" bsp equal tees
2 x 1/2" to 1/2" male straight couplers
2 x 1/2" to 1/4" male straight reducers
1 x 1/2" male to 1/4 female reducer.
You will also need a 1/4 bsp regulator, they are about £15 of ebay.

You will have to remove the wiring from the motor to the pressure switch, the pressure gauges and the pressure relief valve so the pressure switch can be rotated without hitting the motor.

Also note the thin copper pipe from the tank to the pressure switch may fall short ( as mine has ) and be a little stretched so you may need to replace this with a longer piece of pipe, so you will need some of this I got mine from a local air compressor specialist, he said it was 6mm, you will need an olive for the pressure switch end, and the other end needs flaring out, i got a mate to do this with his brake pipe flaring tool. this will all bcvome apparent when you take it apart.

Way too complicated - just put an extra outlet where the bung is on the end of the tank.

I did mine the way I did because my regulator had a crack in it so had to come off anyways, I went out to take a few pics to show the simplest way of doing it, but did encounter a little problem as my receiver is so small the water trap was touching the floor, so had to add two elbows and two nipples to raise it off the ground. Whichever way you decide to do it you will notice the difference in the air supply.

Eil whats the name of that part in the 2nd picture is that called a nipple 1/2 "? which screw directly onto the tank end where the bung used to be?
then basically get a 1/2" filter/regulator/lubricator.and on the outlet of that connect a 1/2" pcl quick release for 1/4" male adapters?
so if i want a short whip i have to buy these made up what size of hose you recommend and what size of fittings on either end and male or female man this is all new to me scratches head!!!

in maddogs post he says he uses a 1/4" regulator so is that still not as good as 1/2"?

That part is called a barrel nipple , 1/2" to 1/2". You could also use a Malleable iron male to male adaptor , which are a little easier to install.

TBH i did mine the way i did for the same reason.. the reg would have been virtually on the floor and i liked the idea of removing the old reg completely, but still having the pressure switch in place, i know i could have left it all in place and used the tank end plug, but for my purposes it just suited me to have it higher up.

I used a 1/4 reg as i already had it and figured it has to come down to 1/4 at some point.

Would there be an advantage to a 1/2 reg with a 1/2 to 1/4 reducer on the output?

I notice you are looking at new connections. Most of the ones you posted looked the same, just different names. Screwfix sell them too:

Male connector x 5
Female disconnect x 3
Female connector x 5

The part in the second pic is the malleable nipple the ones connected to the elbows are barrel nipples, my preference is to come as near as possible to the air tool in 1/2" as you have to go 1/4" on your 10mm/3/8" rubber airline as well as the tool itself, well in most cases anyway.
Regarding the question if it makes any difference in using the larger regulator, well you get more flow through the larger one naturally, but would it make any difference on such a small compressor I'm not sure, I don't have a 1/4" one to experiment with.

ive tried a quarter water seperator and there verry restictive on airtools . ended up using it on me airline filter on shotblasting helmet . low volume. as u say 1/2INCH FITTINGS THEN 10MM PIPE AS NEAR AS POSS TO TOOL BEFORE DROPPING SIZE

I think I'm going to have a bash at this, but just thread a female quick release into the tank bung hole - for occasional use where the normal outlets won't cut it.

To save sticking-out-edness, are right angle quick releases available? Is the thread 1/2" BSP? What kind of quick relase does this compressor use (short and stubby)?

Sorry for the all the questions but I want to be sure. I bought some connectors before thinking there was only one common size and they were wrong

Quick releases are not available in 90 degree , you would need to use an 90 Deg male male adaptor between the QR and regulator.
Just a note for others reading this thread that may not be familiar with pneumatics , there are various types of quick release air fittings and they are not interchangeable. The 3 most common are PCL , Schrader and the type that are fitted to most of the small hobby compressors. They are all different and are not compatible with each other.
The regulator I use has a manifold on the output with 2 standard and 1 large Schrader connectors so I can use multiple air lines and a 1/2" airline when needed.

Nice one The UKHS socket combined with a 1/2" to 1/4" bung should be just the ticket for a compact solution

Regarding the "hi-flow" male connectors, makes you wonder if you couldn't just run a drill down the standard ones?

Just one thing to consider, as the receiver is small it hasn't got the space to condense the moisture from the air very well so you will have 'wet' air running to your tool of choice which could freeze the tool, for not a lot of money a cheap water trap/filter is the better option really.

euro fittings are 7.0mm bore , pcl are 5.0mm bore if it was drilled out it would just colapse

I did consider water, but will just have to put up with it. The compressor gets wheeled about a fair bit and anything that pokes out will end up getting bashed...

The intended use is really only for the rare occasions when the impact wrench won't undo a particular bolt via the standard regulated output. Momentary boost feature

Brightspark, aren't euro fittings a different size/shape/type? I meant that UKHS sell externally identical connectors of the same fitment type in normal and high-flow versions. Was just pondering how different they could really be through the middle...

I was given the same compressor for my birthday from Wolf, the problem I have is that the tank doesn’t quite fill up to 8 psi and when I use it drops to about 4, 4.5 psi, is this normal will it run any tools or do I need to send it back.

I'm sure you mean 8bar not psi, what pressure does it fill to?, the pressure switch might need adjusting.
