i know this has come up before etc.

i've currtently got a small 50 lt 2hp clarke one which is ok for the odd use but looking to run plasma cutter, drill grinder all air etc.

mainly one at a time, any recommandations on a compressor was looking at clarke but not 100% sure if there is anything better

Depends on how much you're willing to spend. I've just bought a Clarke 150 litre 3hp jobbie on one of MM's 'VAT free' promotions so it was a bargain. Not a particularly high output but it's better than my little 2hp 50L one. Might be worth having a look at Shiremoor and see if anything takes your fancy. If you want more details on any of their models, let me know and I'll scan the catalogue pages in and email them to you. To quote RtbComp, go for the highest CFM you can afford as you can always add capacity later. RTB is the air guru on here so I'm sure he'll spot this thread and give you some pointers.

but then what uses 14cfm i'm guessing i would be ok running single stuff like, air guns, drilled, grinders etc. etc.

whats the story in running fixed lines like u see in a garage etc. do u lose compression / air flow etc?

14CFM is the air displacement, not the free air delivery so you'll have to bear that in mind. I think 14 cfm displ gives you around 9.4 cfm FAD. Also, don't forget to add VAT to their prices. I'm not sure about fixed airlines as I use mine with a hose. I'd like to set up a fixed one at some point so if I find anything out I'll post details. This is the one I've got.

For running a air mains use 2" pipe in order to keep your ring pressure and displacement up.

I had great fun installing the one where I used to work. Threading the pipe up was the worst bit, plenty of cutting fluid will see you right.

Using it for Various Air tools and spraying, for car restoration work.
I am in Sutton (Surrey) area of S.London.

had a small compressor before (totally inadequate) got a VAT free offer from MM and went a bit mad.

I bought a clarke filter/regulator at the same time, not the best quality but it will do the job. It looks like they've changed the model recently as the one they sell now is different to mine. You don't need an oiler unless you are only using air tools and not using it for spraying. I prefer to oil my tool as I use it (oo errr mrs!! ). Air tool oil is cheap as chips, I just use an oil can to squirt a couple of drops inside the air connector before I use the tool.

Tangmere I may have to tap your brain when it comes spraying my Spitfire What are you doing up ?

Although my compressor is 3hp 14cfm it's only got a 50ltr tank which is fine for running the odd air tool. However I've also got a spare tank which I guess is about 150ltr. I'll be using this when it comes to spraying so hopefully it should have enough puff. Mine's all hooked together with bits of odd hose and plumbing fittings but does the job for me.

Could post some pics but unless you've got a very good imagination you'll be hard pushed to recognise it as a car. It's broken down to it's component parts at the moment, plan is to get the chassis out of the garage when the weather warms up a bit and start bolting it back together. To be honest it's just a hobby and I'm fully expecting it to be a good couple of years before I actually get to drive it again
